When Wild Animals Kill

The other day, a young girl was killed in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park by two coyotes who attacked her. I was saddened to hear this and felt so sorry for her and her family. Within hours of the tragedy, people started making comments about how all the coyotes on the Island should be shot and killed for attacking people. This was the first fatal attack on humans by coyotes in Canada. My belief is wild animals have every right to kill people in the forest. It is their territory and when they look at us, they see a meal. We are, after all, part of the food chain. I am saddened by the loss of this girl but the animals are not at fault, they were just acting like animals. I spend a lot of time in the woods and have had my share of encounters with wild animals and ever time I venture into the forest, I know and accept that I may not come out alive. I am invading their territory and they don't know any better, I am just food to them and a threat to their environment. Why is it so hard for people to see that?? If you choose to venture into the woods, you are putting your life at risk. These animals have every right to be there, they were there first!
