VPNs - Do you use them?

So, past days I have been fiddling with VPN access for several reasons and I came to wonder if other myLot users have need for VPN services. Do you seek privacy when surfing online? Want to protect the data you are sending through unencrypted wireless connections when you're not at home? Or you use VPNs to try and cheat those sites that block you from accessing them due to not living in the US? Personally, the last point has always been a nuisance to me, because there are dozens of sites and contents I'd like to access but the lack of a US IP prevents me from going there. Even some contents in YouTube are blocked because of this. Recently though I came to learn from a great VPN service called HideIPVPN that has very cheap, reliable service and is able to provide both PPTP access as well as OpenVPN based for increased security and more stable connections. Unlimited bandwidth on all of their services also allows you to surf the web to your heart's content and at pretty good speeds too. Their services cost only $6 a month if you want either a UK or US share IP and use PPTP, or for $10 a month you can have access to both ranges of IPs and have a dedicated IP assigned to you (so that you don't have to share the wrong doings of other users). The HideIPVPN fellows also provide monthly about a hundred free accounts which kind of get taken away quickly, but it's the chance for you to try the service for free before moving up to the premium services. I know that there are other services out there, but this seems about the only genuine US based VPN that I found that allowed me to access everything without problems, so, if you're trying to find a solution for this sort of problem they are a good source to look into. Anyone else used their Premium services? Satisfied?

Of course, but tell me however, those zero cost proxies; how fast are them and what are their limitations? Can you download at several Mbps through them? Do all of those proxies allow you to bounce to IRC? Do they allow you to direct Bittorrent traffic to it? Do they all open up all sites without errors? Are these constantly accessible month after month without needing to find a new one just as good? Do you get your traffic encrypted while connecting between your computer and that proxy? So, no, unfortunately they don't achieve the same purposes by far.
