What I would like to know is what is the average age a goat lives to? I have not been able to find that out! I also would like to know what is the world record for the oldest goat on record? I'm pretty curious!

The goats longevity varies whether they are on the wild or in captivity. As far as I know, those that are in captivity can live up to 15 years and those in the wild maybe a litter longer, say 20 to 25 years. I am not aware of any record of longest living goat. Interesting topic. And yes, goat's meat is called chevron.

Thanks for the response! The 2 pygmy goats I know are like 12 years old! I guess they have a few years left in them!

Hi bluepacker, well we have lots of goats roaming around the mountains here but I don't know what age they actually reach. Of course a lot of them are used as meat though I don't like to eat it myself as find it too fatty, and of course some of them are inclined to walk in front of cars. I do know that the shepherdess who used to walk with them was over eighty but I think she was probably older than the goats but a lovely woman with four children and I believe most of them had become professors, definitely the daughter who was living in Spain. I think she actually took more pride in her childrens achievements than she did in the goats but it did upset her when incomers started complaining about the goats getting into their gardens, because they didn't use to be gardens but just natural areas where the goats could roam.
