how to comment on photos

in the activity bit on the left hand side,i quite often see people leaving comments bout other peoples photos,i tried to do this but it hasn't come up,what did i do wrong,,i clicked on the photo and then at the bottom where it says add comment i did,so why hasn't it come up

You have to be on the friends list of the person who posted the photo.

Howdy! I've noticed that sometimess it takes a while for something to show up. I guess it depends on how busy the site is. Try refreshing the page or check later and it should be there.
