sometimes we are like Jonah

Do you know Jonah? (read the book of Jonah - it contains only 4 chapters!) God has chosen Jonah to do an important task. But Jonah refused to do it and flees from the Lord. However, he can't escape from God. Whatever he do, God and the task assigned to him is following wherever he go. Until such time he finally gave in and do as God commanded to him. I sometimes feel I am like Jonah. Running away from the path which God is leading. I am always doing things on my own cause this is what I want. But then I realize I was so wrong. I wasgoing to a wrong path that leads me to so much sorrows. I sometimes think regretfully, what if I followed God? Would I be more successful than what I dreamt of? Now, I am following Him. I let Jesus take care of my life. In Him, I enjoy abundance and complete joy. How about you? Have you been like Jonah?

I agree, I think we all have been like Jonah. Especially when you consider the reason Jonah did not want to obey God, which was because they did not like the people of Nineveh! They didn't want God to save them. Jonah also knew that if he warned the people of Nineveh and God changed His mind about destroying them, then that would make it appear that Jonah had lied, which would hurt his reputation as a prophet. I think we all take pride in what we do, and we mostly don't want to make our peers angry, or have our reputation soiled. So we run the other way because the task seems too difficult, just like Jonah.

I think we're all like Jonah at one point in our walk with Christ. We tend to want to do our own thing and when God asks us to do something, we balk, while claiming at the same time that we want to follow Him. I'm glad God doesn't send us all to Jonah's fish! There might be a whole lot of sick fish in the sea. Every time I think I'm straightened out and following the Lord, He shows me where I am not.
