Windows 7 : Godsend...or Just another low blow from Microsoft

Windows XP was a very well rounded.. user friendly version of Windows. Windows XP Professional has been by far, my favorite operating system so far. Then Windows Vista came out. Yeah sure it looks great, very aesthetically pleasing. But it requires sooo much just to run the damn thing. So, do you think Windows & is going to be another Vista? Or do you think its going to blow Vista out of the water?

Well, I'm using vista at the moment and I have been really pleased with it, no hiccups! Still, I like the idea of upgrading to windows 7! If something is working then why change? I want to though as I enjoy experiencing new things in relation to new technology coming out onto the market. Microsoft have been clever like that! They always come out with something new and support eventually stops for everything old! By doing this they get you to always buy the latest version coming out. I have the plan to build a system from scratch and then I will put windows 7 on that. Andrew Welcome to My Lot by the way!

Well, as it was stated earlier in the discussion. Windows Vista runs really heavy on older computers, but not everyone has an up to date or new computer. So not everyone is going to be happy with it. I'm sure that it runs great on the high end brand spankin' new computers that have duo or quad core processors and crap loads of ram. However I do think it is best to purchase a new computer every few years or so, as I stated in a previous reply, and in response to what you said about building your own PC. I completely agree with doing that. Its a lot cheaper and you know exactly whats going into your machine. Therefor you get exactly what you want in a PC for less money than you'd spend buying one in a store.

I do not have a Window 7, but there isn't really much negative news about Window 7 yet. So far, so good. I will wait awhile, maybe a month or two, before I will buy Window 7. Just to make sure they have iron out most of the bugs. It would be interesting to see if many companies and school will switch to Window 7, since I believe most are still using Window XP.

so far i don't have any complains about windows 7. it works great on my pc. backward compatibility on other programs is not an issue anymore since xp virtualization is supported. also software companies already updating their programs to support windows 7. the only thing that should be put in mind before using this is to check the pc specs first specially for older computers. but overall this outrun vista.

I agree. As i said earlier. Do your research before purchasing a new PC, or you might just end up buying nothing more than a headache and a hole in your pocket

Windows Seven is a relatively fast and better operating system than vista also it has almost all of vista's features and also have support to higher graded hardware there have been few changes in security areas but it is still early to decide as this is new operating system but i think its gonna work Vista became flop mostly because of higher hardware requirements but Windows Seven requirements has not been higher than Vista as now every system comes with hardware that can run vista

I have been using Windows 7 for a while now, and it is way better than Vista ever was. I know they now have Windows 8, and wonder if it is as good?

Hi Capt, First of all, I want to welcome you to Mylot and requested you as a friend. I know your Mom quite well and she is so excited to have you here. I really hope you love it like we do. As for my computer, I have Vista and it's not quite 2 years old and I've had problems from the beginning. Does it matter that it is a Dell? If I am able to get Windows 7 does it cost to download? I used to feel confident in what knowledge I had of computers, but as you can see, vista has really messed me up. Welcome once again. Leenie

Depending on how old your computer is, it might just be worth it to go ahead and buy a new computer just in case. Otherwise there's the possibility of it running poorly like Vista. ALWAYS do your research before purchasing a PC. You might end up only buying a headache and a hole in your pocket if you don't lol.

Microsoft said Windows 7 will be similar to Vista. However it would be better than Vista. So it would mean that they removed or changed some of the things that annoyed people. However the basic thing remain the same that one has to get a better hardware to run Windows 7.

So far Windows 7 based from the beta we have installed i quite impressive with regards to speed and graphics. It is stable as Windows XP. I think Microsoft has these tendency to release a buggy Windows version before introducing a much more stable OS in the next version just what happens to Windows ME before after it they release Windows XP. So Windows 7 is same scenario as Windows XP before.

Yes i agree. Usually i dont listen to other people opinions about different products. I like to try them first hand. Because what's ugly to to a thousand, could be beautiful to a handful. But with operating systems, it's a whole different story. If your buying a computer, and you find out that you absolutely hate the operating system, then you have to spend a few more hundred dollars just to change it to one that you you like. With the cost of computers these days, the consumer should be 100% satisfied with their purchase. Vista caters more to people who use their computer for business, and not the average PC/Laptop user. Microsoft needs to make an operating system that caters to everyone. Perhaps with a personal optimizing feature that allows the user to choose what they use their computer for upon installing it.

Hi CaptHowdy, We had Windows XP on our first computer and I agree it, it was very good.We recently bought a new PC which already had Vista installed on it.I had heard all the negative comments about Vista so wasn't happy about having to use it but we've been pleasantly surprised about it.So far, we've had no problems with it and are happy using it.

That is why i never trust other people opinions on things like that. Because most of the time people don't know what the hell they are doing anyway lol. I'm not sure if it will be good or not. I'm not going to make any judgments until i see it in action.

hi,the windows vista is not that good system as we waited and expect! it costs too much space to install it !now my C disk only reamin 5GB ,it is far from enough to run the system !so now i am thinking about installing the system and divide the space again! actually,i do not see very practical and useful functions and advantages compared with the previous windows xp! i feel a little bit disappointed runing the system!
