I use the word when a particular thing is funny, however it does not necessarily mean I am laughing out loud. Smiling will do.

Smiling is called smiling because there is no sound. LOL there is no such thing as smiling out loud.

So you must put "sol" (smiling out loud) rather than "lol." Cheers

Whenever I use "lol", I really do laugh. Maybe not loudly but if I do use "lol", I really think what I said was funny in some way. Of course, I can't really laugh out loud when I am at work so if I do say that in my texts or here in mylot, I am really laughing on the inside.

lol. I am really laughing. Haha. I guess I should stop laughing on the inside while at work, I don't want to pass gas due to stomachache. That would be really gross. lol.

Oh, you might suffer from stomachache when you laugh inside, be careful. Just kidding.

hi levite yes indeed the topic has to be something in the humorous line then indeed I will use an emoticon that shows I am laughting, if the topic is anger producing I use the proper emoticon,as I am definitely meaning what I say or I would not be going to the trouble of writing it. Yes sometimes I do laugh really hard too, and nearly dump my glass of water into the keyboard.

Hello Hatley, Lelin too really means what she wants to say when she uses the emoticons here. So your keyboard must be a water-absorbent one so that in case you really dump the water into it, it will just absorb the water.

When I use that icon LOL yes I'm laughing out loud. I don't use icons unless I'm feeling whatever the icon is expressing. So if I use the crying icon, be sure I have tears in my eyes, if I use the sad icon I'm sad, and if I'm happy I use the happy icon and etc......!

Hi lelin. So you're really crying when you use the emoticon . Wow, you really mean it. I hope your keyboard won't get wet when you cry, just kidding.

I have a tissue box on my desk for when the tears come.

Hi levite.. good question.. This discussion is for many people who just express this word but they really do not have that feeling on their face.. When i really feel like laughing, i mention that word.. To be honest i don't really boast about anything but when i feel like the sentence is funny and i feel like bursting out of laugh i use the word LOL.. or else no..

For me I use the expression for more lively conversation but i don't use it oftentimes without any reason at all for it might hurt other people too, so I'm also careful.

I really don't know about other people, but, when I text, type, or write LOL I reallly am Laughing Out Loud. I know that some of my friends just type it because it's something to "fill in the blanks". I must say though, that it is embarrassing to read a text message and just start laughing out loud while walking the mall, or store. But in the end, it makes other people laugh too sometimes knowing that someone had a good day.

Perhaps they don't know the real meaning of this internet slang. The expression is everywhere now and I think many use it for no reason at all without even knowing the meaning.

If I feel pretty interesting, I'll laugh out loud. But a lot of time I laugh in mind and my face remain quiet.
