Linux In Everyday Use : Less or More

What do you think how many people use linux in every day life instead of Windows or other OS. If not many people, then what could be the reason for this & what should be done spread awareness about it ?

My son uses Linux systems where he works as an internet security installer! He says that mostly software engineers are familiar and work with Linux systems! They are a unique breed of people! He tells me that Linux systems are more secure than Windows !
