Is unconditional love the only real love?

Some people use the word love all the time and most probably pay little attention to it's true meaning. Would you say that you love your children unconditionally? Most probably would, although there may be some who would not. If conditions are placed on love, is it then true love? What are your thoughts on this?

Hi pose123, True love can never impose conditions. Love is a spontanity of the heart and the soul. It is natural & can never bear any condition what so ever. Regards

To me unconditional love comes from the heart ,and most parents would give their lives for their kids. We love our kids regardless of who they are ,and we usually accept them just as they are. Is hard for us to that with other people. Imagined a World full of unconditional love!

No, but I think that it is the best kind of love because it means that you love that person no matter what happens or what the circumstances are. I believe that the love I have for my boyfriend and my cats is unconditional. I will always love them.

yes only unconditional is the real love. if we put some conditions on our children , say for example, we will say to our kids that we will give them a bike if they do good in school. what if they didn't do good no matter how hard they try, we will not give them the bike. i think that is already considered conditional love. for me i would give the bike no matter. if does not matter to me if he performs well or not in school. we should not reward children according to what they can bring or give us. we just accept them as they are. and be good to them and give gifts to them because we love them and they are our children and for no other reason .

The English language is sadly lacking about the emotion of love. It gives us only one word for all the different types of love. One thing I have noticed is that this has gotten even worse than it was when I was in school, in school I was taught that only things that were alive could be loved, all other things that caused this emotion should be referred to as liked.

Hi savypat, Thank you for sharing and now that you mention it, we were taught the same way. Now we just love certain movies or books or any of a dozen other things. In this discussion however, I was thinking of love between people and how we sometimes put conditions on that love. Blessings.

real love - Usually, real love is uncommon. Instead, in our daily life, imitation love has been a replacement of real love. Anything we use as a substitute for real Love becomes a form of imitation love.
Yes, unconditional love is the only real love and real love should be unconditional. Love is really becoming a common words in our daily life. Even if most people are not still familiar with the true meaning of it, it seems that they have realized of the meaning of it completely. In my eyes, real love is unique and uncommon, such as the relationship with a child. In fact, in our daily life, imitation love has been a replacement of real love. Anything we use as a substitute for real Love becomes a form of imitation love. If there are no real love instead of imitation love between a couple, although such kind of love feels good for a moment, it never lasts and never gives us the feeling of genuine happiness that real love provides.

Pose- I think of it as a way to describe an action. We are humans, and we need words to describe the world around us so that we can understand it better. I do believe that Agape love is the love we should strive for but I do know that there are other other types of love such as Eros. Namaste- Anora

Hi Anora Thanks for sharing and I know what you mean but I think of Eros love as passion, but still love nonetheless. For this discussion I think we can agree with Agape or unconditional love. Blessings.
