I was in the supermarket today. I don't particularly enjoy doing any grocery shoping so I like to have my list in my hand and get in and get out. Well, this morning was no exception. I was relieved when the store was not as crowded as I expected. I smiled when the cashier greeted me before I even got to the checkout. Then, I went to walk out the door. Some elderly little old woman had stopped, right in the entranceway to itemize her receipt and make sure she got every thing correct. I may be a hurried NYer, but, man did that throw me off. Do you have any strange quirks about going to the supermarket? Habits or actions of others that really annoy you?

Hi Ringbearer, what annoys me are the rude cashiers-- who need to undergo "good customer service"; buyers and customers who will overtake you instead of waiting for their turn and fall in line, those customers and buyers who fall in line in big carts when they have their blue carts or less than 10 items and vice verza (where line is not long).

Hello. I hate rude cashiers. Let me tell you, their job is tough... working with the public all day and all that constant beeping. However, there is no excuse for them to be rude to us if we are being nice, or at least normal. It only serves to irk other people and spread the misery they endure all day to others. I know it's tough, but, these types of circumstances are the perfect time to throw out a good joke or flash a huge smile and a nice "Have a wonderful day!" :-)

Yes, quality customer service goes along way in stores. It's the time that we are giving them our money. The last thing we need or expect is for someone who is taking our money to be rude. The problem rests on the managers shoulders as it is their job to hire adequate, qualified FRIENDLY people for the cashier positions as well as making sure they continue to offer excellent customer service skills throughout the day. :-)

being tired is not the reason for being rude and for not establishing a good customer service relationship with clients. we are all tired. being in the frontliners' job they have to give justice to their work by being friendly and nice to theuir customers. sometimes they will even ask for "change" and not give you the exact change (lacking with cents--) because they don't have enough coins... it's not my problem they have to look for coins to give me exact amount of change. i know if my money is not enough or lacking with cents/penny they will not give me the product that i need to purchase.

That's happened to me quite a bit. Not only that. Sometimes in particularly narrow aisles, they take AGES to choose what they want and they use their cart to block the passage way. What's even worse is when you try to say excuse me, they pretend to not hear you. Then, when you say it again and try to move their cart aside, they get angry. I think it's inconsiderate and stupid. Just goes to show how inconsiderate a person is.

LOL. It's so true though. Sometimes I swear it's a conspiracy to ruin my mood or even my day. It seems like they go out of their way to get in mine. Like cutting in front of me only to stand there looking at all the crap with a blank stare. come on. Don't you have anything else to do today? LOL. I wish I could get by without ever having to go in a grocery store. :-)

LOL haha conspiracy? I know what you mean. I had days when EVERYTHING I did seemed to go wrong. It usually starts with some idiot being a butthead in the supermarket Lol

Nah, I don't really get bothered very easily. On top of that, i'm not exactly in any super busy place. I've actually been to stores at times where they were almost completely empty!(minus the employees of course.) So I guess I just wouldn't run into as many people as you would where you live. Last time I was in New York I had some old lady push me out of the way to get where she was going, heard a guy in a taxi and a guy on the street yelling at eachother, and another guy swear under his breath saying *bleeping* tourists and glared at me and some friends. Yeah, I can't really think of one particular habit or action that really annoys me. I don't like rude people but that isn't really a habit or an action. Well.. I guess, "rudeness" could fall under the lines of a "habit" as some people are just naturally rude without realizing it!

Good for you for not letting it bother you. That is a great attitude to have. I have lived in Rural areas where there were hardly any people in the supermarket. It was nice. I could just go in, get what I needed, and go home. Where I live now there are alot more people and the store I go to a lot (because it's close and also has natural foods) is way to small for it's clientele. It's a family run business. The parking lot is way too small as well. I'm sure this adds to the frequency of my frustrating encounters.

There is one Reliance Fresh shop(supermarket) near my house. It is too good ...we can get everything there....the vegetables are also cheaper than the normal grocery rates of the market and the vegetables are fresh but one thing that really annoys me is that I need to tear polythene bags again and again or either ask the boys working there for it as the vegetables have to be tagged, this is really frustrating,i mean if you have to buy one lemon you need to tear the polythene for one minute, sounds really time-consuming and what are the boys doing shouldn't they tear the bags and hand it to the customers so that buying is at least easy and quick and it takes a hell of a lot of time to get the receipt for payment and everybody is so slow....they are not able to manage the mob, then you have to remember to take your bags also and show the receipt to the man standing outside, sounds like one is fighting a war!!!

Wow! That is crazy! It sounds like the store I go to as far as fresh veggies (organic) and alot of whole natural foods as well as regular groceries. Is your market family run like mine is? It sounds like a lot of waste as well. I can't believe they make you go through all that to buy a lemon. (The cashier really wouldn't be able to identify a lemon?) It almost seems like they want to make you work as much as possible so that they don't have to. Hopefully, you'll go shop somewhere else so they don't have to work at all! LOL. Nice business strategy! Good luck with it. :-)

One habbit is that some people will go through the whole bill again asking the cashier whether he/she has got everything right or that he/she hasn't missed anything. The other thing that irritates me is when some people take out coupons and at that moment, start going through them and go on asking the cashier if the coupons work. They do this and due to this a huge line follows.

Yes, I go with my gf quite often as well. She does make the whole experience more bearable, but I still try to get in and out as quick as possible and people still seem to be intent on preventing that. She likes to get in and out as well so I don't have the problem with her of comparing things. We have a list, we get the stuff, we split up if we have to in order to speed it up. :-)
