Are you nocturnal?

I am. Since I began studying again a few months ago I have found that the only time I can concentrate is at night when every one is asleep. Bed time for me has been four of five o'clock in the morning. Today I cracked my record and finally hit the hay at three pm this afternoon! I woke up at eight-thirty pm and it is now nearly one am. I would say this is my lunch time and so will probably go and make me a sandwich and I guess pull the books out and do a bit of study if I can tear myself away from Mylot! Are you a night owl or do you prefer to rise with the sun?

I am nocturnal, and I need to get out of that habit by tomorrow morning. LOL My mother is coming to town tomorrow to see us, and my sister is coming on Monday, so no more sleeping in till noon, for the next few days. LOL I don't know why, but it's just easier to work at night.

Well, before I started working days, I was never asleep before 2-3 a.m. Now that I work days, I have a hard time staying up a lot of the time after 11. Even on my days off lately I am asleep around then. I do miss some of the late night being online here in myLot etc. but don't miss having to get home early in the morning from work though.

I am a bit of both and really I do think I need to make up my mind and do one or the other. But I love to stay up late and then my neighbors love to come over early and express surprise and say, "Oh, did I wake you?" And there are so many places to go and things to do by day and so many lovely web sites to visit all night!

That's great that you are able to do that but I could never do this. I used to work nights and I found it extremely difficult getting to sleep during the day. There would be work men drilling and hammering and it was just an impossible situation. I'm glad when I stopped working nights and I have vowed to myself that I will never work nights again. I do stay up quite late at times but sleeping at night is the best thing for me. I study myself and thankfully it's pretty quiet where I am so I am able to study successfully. Andrew

I have to smile at how different people are! You say that you go to bed at four or five in the morning...That’s the time I get up! I am up at four a.m. every day because; clearly I am not a nocturnal person! I am a morning person and I do my best work during the early hours of the morning. The unfortunate thing for me is that, instead of writing or MyLotting before dawn I am stuck getting boring household chores out of the way so that once my daughter is at school I can sit in front of the computer and...Nod off! No, seriously I don’t start getting sleepy until after lunch (LOL)!

I too am a nocturnal person, coffeeshot. It is almost 5 pm right now, and I am having my "morning" coffee. I usually go to bed between 4 and 6 am. I've always been a night owl, even when I was a kid. I would climb out of bed and straighten my room in the dark, or put on the next day's clothes so I could sleep a little longer in the morning, hehe. :) My late night habit was handy in college for studying (but, boy, the mornings were rough!), and I've worked at night for the past several years since graduation. In some ways I wish I could be on a regular daytime schedule, because it seems like I'm always doing the opposite of the rest of the world, but in other ways, I kind of like it. I can get a lot done at night. I wish I could be the sort of person who gets up before the sun and starts their day early, so they can sleep all night, but that's just never been me!

...Hi coffeshot, I am a night person as well, not at all a morning person. I usually go to bed at 4 or 5 in the a.m. I found the quiet of the darkness very peaceful. I live near a main street and early a.m. the traffic is almost non existent which I love. I don't know how healthy it is for a person to not sleep completely through the night in the long term, but I am functioning alright for now, perhaps it will change in the future, but for now I am playing night owl. Take it easy.

I spent a rather large chunk of my life being very nocturnal. I'd stay up all night if allowed and sleep all day or a really good chunk of the day anyway. However, since I've gotten my first job out of college, I've been going to bed by midnight on most nights and I'm up at 6:50AM and I'm starting work at 8AM so I've had to force myself to become a day person. At first I really didn't think it was possible to be a day person but I've made it work. I'm usually up and ready to go in the morning unless I'm not feeling too great or if I didn't sleep too well the night before. I do miss being a night person though. There's something fun about being up all night.

I have always been a night owl. It is 3:30AM here. lol Like you... I find it a lot easier to concentrate on things at night. Daylight is too much of a distraction. If you think about it... I am sure that is why most people working in large offices don't have a window. The only bad thing about living at night... is that it cost you more in electricity... since you have the lights on the whole night. And keeping a heater going the whole night in winter is rather expensive too. Particulary since the nights are a lot colder than the days. And then in summer... it is very difficult to sleep in the morning when you have 30 degrees by 9AM. But despite all that... I still love living at night.

I've always seemed to be nocturnal and I hate it. I can't function well during the day and I miss out on opportunities to do things and when it's time to be thinking about sleeping, my brain wakes up and wants to do a million projects at once. It's always been my best time to study and read. I with I was the opposite! It would make life easier!
