Do u question the stories / facts told or simply accept them as truths?

Hi everybody, this is something I need to know. I am not very quick in accepting that somebody is bad, unless I physically witness it, or have adequate evidence to say it is bad. I take my own time - which is really long by any standards - to arrive at my decisions, but once I do condemn a person, I condemn for good. I've often noticed that people realize that I've valid points, but the points are accumulated over the period/years, just like any other court case. As to backbiting, I simply refuse to believe the person doing that. I also believe that journalist and others are as falliable in reporting, and they do tend to add flavor of their opinions, possibly based on personal feelings, or requirement of profession. So I tend to discount dramatized stuff and come straight to the point - at least mentally. My mind questions everything, be it religion, be it history, be it scientific facts (including 2012). So do I have company, or am I from Mars? :)

Apparently, men are from Mars; women from Venus... Does that help? I think it's important to challenge and question everything. If we do not do so, then power remains unchecked - and history tells us that there can be devastating consequences! I try to challenge everything were I see any form of political or economic influence. By questioning orthodoxy, we can influence positive change. Isn't that the cornerstone of democracy and freedom?

Well, I am a woman, and so I am from Venus, :) And the question I raised is because I didnt find other womenfolk around me in my physical social circle question much, till I start raising such points. I do become the odd man out and therefore tend to keep those points within my mind. :( So I thought may be I am the woman from Mars. :) Yeah, I too think so. If Galileo would not have questioned, we would still think that earth was flat, because that is what was believed until then. Isn't it? :) Thanks for making me feel normal. :) Have a nice day. :)

Well, I certainly consider myself the man from Venus, so you're by no means alone! I have far more respect for people that question authority, and challenge orthodoxy - whether or not I happen to agree with them - than for people who blindly accept the status quo, or the establishment line. Incidentally, if you don't voice your challenge, what makes you so sure that other people don't hear the voices too, and choose to keep quiet about it? I'd definitely start talking, fast! (I don't mean that in a Tarantino fashion...)

Well, other people tend to go with the herd so to say. :) And anything against the stream does make me stand out, and I feel uncomfortable with that. :) I do it, but not very often, because when everybody is focusing on u, u cant really afford to be wrong, can u?

vandana You are not alone at all. I question blatant statements declaring this food to be unhealthy or that thing to be unsafe so I snope's it to find out if it is another urban myth. so many mylotters get all bent out of shape because someone states drinking water will poison you, when the fact is we must have 8 to 10 glasses a day to keep hydrated. someone wrote an article about someone drinking so much water it killed them, and others read this and just believed drinking water would kill you. common sense should tell any one that eating or drinking too much of anything could be detrimental to your health. so I do question rash statements and try to find reference to prove or disprove the statement.as for 2012 if I am still here and smiling then it was indeed another hoax.

Hi Hatley, :) U r such an angel. Yeah, exactly, such reports. U know I read a funny one. It said it is good to feel sad / stressed because it makes u more alert. LOL. I'd think the person would be so lost in personal grief or stressful situation that if a heavy vehicle kept honking, he/she would still not be aware of it.:) Thanks for making me feel I am not alone with such questioning mind.:) Have a nice day. :)

Please do not worry you do have company. Most of us believe in logic. We (me including) simply do not get ready to accept any story/fact till we get fully convinced. I believe there is no point in believing anything no the basis of hearsay. We should not be incredulous. It could be dangerous.

Hi deepak, there is a story about a naughty friend scaring a sweet friend telling him that she was a ghost, and that she drank human blood, and she had long nails, to hold her victims, and ... did u hear that one? Did u find that incredulous? Well, I do know of somebody who actually believed in it!

You have my company, at least, if you want it. "Trust, but verify," is sound wisdom. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt to start, but if there's any clue I get that they're not being truthful, I check what they say, & if I find they're dishonest, I confront them, & unless they change, I walk away. My faith teaches me to forgive those who've wronged me, but it does add that I should be wise & not trust them again.... And by the way, all my "opinions" are based on facts I've taken care to verify. It's been a workable policy all my life. Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?"

You kidding? I wouldn't miss out on such a good offer! :) Yeah, I too give everybody a benefit of doubt. I go so far as giving them a chance to offer explanations for their actions. Generally, people do not realize that they went wrong somewhere. Nor do they expect such chances. Almost always their explanations were rather lame. They do realize themselves that their arguments do not hold much water and then they dont pursue the matter any longer. It has at times taken me as long as 30 odd years to come up with right way of presenting the questions or my logics. But when I did, they were irrefutable. There have been no fights. Nor any lectures. Just a few questions presented in front of many, which had no rational explanations. However, in the interim, I had to accept much blame because I did not conform. Do I feel smug about it? No. It feels like pyrrhic victory. After all, the time lost was from my life. It was me who could not move forward without resolving it the right way. :( Ah! well! That is the past. :) My life began just about 4 months ago. :)

I tend to keep an open mind until otherwise proven. I do question facts and beliefs only if I feel passionate about the subject but if not, then I just stay neutral. It also depends on the subject in question.

Hey dont get serious rg. :) I just want to know this because I feel if we rationalize everything and make a habit of it, then there is a possibility of preventing things like holocaust occurring again. :) U c, everybody has to become rational, and question logically every issue, whether or not they feel passionately about it. :) At least that is what I thought. What is ur call on this, though. I would be interested considering that u mentioned I am holding a pitch fork. LOL.

Ah, here comes something on which I want to cross swords. he he. So if u didnt have any proof that Nazis were killing jews, u wouldn't question where they were taken through those pograms? I mean would u stay neutral just because it didnt concern u, even if it was told to u? Or would u rationalize it, or want to know the truth, whether or not it concerns u? That is my question.

Well, arent you another mylotter with a ready pitchfork in hand. If you read my response, I would be interested if I felt passionate enough about it.

You are very much from this world . You are a sensible person. So you judge every person whether he/she really good or bed. Apparently you don't take any decision for someone without facts.I appreciate it.
