I thought the point system for moving violations was suppose to make it fair. too many points, no license. but all that is being charged is money, and no points. as long as you plea quilty. the police discuss with the defendent how there will be no point as long as they pay the fine and plea quilty to a lesser charge. This goes on all day long in every court i have been in. I have no violations and think it is unfair and unjust that other people get away with driving unsafely, with only paying a fine. what happened to the points and why are so many unsafe drivers still driving? is this going on in other states? I'm in n.j. and last, How legal is this practice?

You can also avoid the points if you take a safe driving course and you don't even have to leave your home since, in my state at least, you can do it online. I don't believe that someone should necessarily lose their license if they get a series of minor speeding tickets or if the red light camera get them too many times. Those things alone don't make them a hazard on the road.
