just this morning chiz escudero held a press conference and announced that he will not be running for either the presidential or vice-presidential race this 2010. read the news at this link, http://www.gmanews.tv/story/177676/escudero-abandons-2010-presidential-bid . now this is another explosive announcement by the young senator. just a couple of months back, he announced that he has left the nationalist people's coalition because he wants to be an independent candidate and he doesn't want to be beholden to any political party or political group. considering that he was being groomed by the npc to be their presidential bet in the 2010 elections, this was a bold move by chiz. a lot of political analysts, fellow politicians, and even the simple masses were divided with the decision of senator escudero. others applauded his decision saying he is indeed the catalyst of political change here in the country while others said it was a foolish decision by senator escudero abandoning the political machinery that will help him reach the top post of the country in 2010. hardly has that issue been resolved, here comes one more from chiz. just last week, a lot of speculation has been going around about chiz's political plans. others said he will continue with with presidential campaign riding on the support of the youth and other socio-political , socio-civic groups while others said he will slide down to the vice-presidential post. either way, he will run as an independent. now comes the biggest political announcement, chiz decide to abandon his political plans for 2010 saying that now is not the proper time and that he will be involved in the 2010 elections as an ordinary voter. as a voter i am saddened by this. i think chiz is one of the more qualified persons to run in public office. as a citizen, i am more saddened. this shows how sad and dismal the state of politics are in this country. with chiz, we have someone, who stood against the traditional politics of corruption and yet the grim realization that no matter how qualified you are, how noble your intentions are for this country, if you do not have the money, the machinery, and the support of the a bygone traditional political system, your chances of winning are slim to none. so fellow mylotters, what are your thoughts on senator chiz escudero's decision not to run for any post in the 2010 elections?

Good for him. Much better if he joins to LP and really make difference. It would be the strongest and most highly anticipated change in the Philippine Election history. Chiz is still young and knew whats good for him.

hi fulltank! i don't think chiz escudero will join any political party at this point. he said that his leaving the npc will be for naught if he decides to join another party. he might be tagged as a political butterfly. he did say that he is still undecided who to support but said that another factor that he considered when he decided not to run in the coming elections is his friendship with noynoy. the two talked last week but chiz claims that noynoy did not ask him to support him nor did noynoy invited him to join the liberal party. the two are friends and share the same agenda for good governance and change. cheers!!!

I already knew from the start that chiz will not gonna run and it is all just media hype. Chiz's character is the champion of the poor but so as Manny Villar and Erap. He knew that he didnt have a chance to win if Manny Villar or Erap will run. His primary vote is the poor, so hes strategy is to be anti-rich that's why he leave Dandings party in the first place. He bashes out the rich people in our society like he is not one of them. Chiz is hypocrite, thank you for not running...see you in 2016!

hi stephon8! you're entitled to your opinion and i respect that. chiz is presenting himself as a viable alternative candidate geared towards change. about him being anti-rich, haven't really seen that side of him.

it is but fitting for chiz escudero to back out from presidential and vice presidential race. He didnt allow himself to be use by other people. good decision. at least, he was able to arrive a decision not to stand against ninoy for he probably realized he cannot win over this guy, but he opted to support ninoy instead. Chiz admitted he can still serve the country being a senator and he said, its not the right time for him to aspire the highest position in the land. I admire chiz for the decision he made, unlike other candidates/aspirants think they have the ability to run or to be more particular havent learn from the past.

hi gelay. you maybe on to something about chiz realizing that he may not have the means to defeat noynoy. although, he did not readily admit it, chiz did say that he considered his friendship with noynoy as one of the reasons why he decided not to continue his plans for 2010. he has not yet gone on record sayign he will support noynoy's candidacy buti i thinkthat is a foregone conclusion already. i do agree with you that chiz can still serve the country as a senator and he has a lot of time left in his tank toaspire for the presidency coem 2016. cheers!!!

Hi allen0187! Chiz Escudero is a very clever man, I really believe that his decision to not run from the coming election will benefit him further. I believe that he really thinks it over before he have decided, maybe feel what the masses are clamoring with. The consistent and continuous support for Senator Aquino in the survey and even the transferring of some known politicians in the Liberal Party have really make the LP tandem as the team to beat in the coming election. I also think that beside from their friendship, they have the same objective and platform of changing our country for better. I think he will have a lot of times, make it six years, to once again climb the political scene and prepare for the national election. Have a nice day!

hi tholitz! agree with what you said. i think in th elong run, chiz will benefit from his decision of not pushing through as president in the 2010 presidential elections. he does not have the machinery to conduct a sustianed nationwide campaign and with the rise of the popularity of noynoy, chiz does not enjoy the popularity he once had before noynoy declared his bid for presidency. 2016 is still a long way to go but this early chiz can start laying down the foundation for his political plans at that time. perhaps, chiz can start his own political party and he should begin at the grassroot level. just my thoughts. cheers!!!

I am vying for him too before, but, when he decided to quit the political party he was in I started seeing him to be a bit of a lost soul in the field of politics. I still believe that being a politicians you should belong to some political party where you find your ideals as a politician. I found him to be all alone in his dreams when he did that especially when there were no political parties that invited him. I think for an idealistic person that he is he should seek for like minded persons too or else you will be left alone in the arena and would take it hard to really push your agenda to our country.

hi rsa101!!! you raised valid points there. i think chiz was trying to prove somethign when he quit npc. there were talks that he quit because the war chest that was promised by npc head danding cojuangco did not materialize and chiz will not be gettign the financial support he needs to go on an all-out campaign in 2010. those are mere speculations though. chiz did say that he does not want to be beholden to any political party or political group should he run for president in 2010. brave words indeed. about you mentioning about finding kindred spirits and finding like-minded politicians, i think chiz stands alone and would be hard pressed to find someone whom he shares the same ideals with. maybe noynoy will come as a close match to chiz but i doubt that. just my opinion. cheers!!!

Good for him and good for us. Now is not his time to shine in running for the presidency or vice-presidency. He's still has a lot to learn everything there is about politics, elections, parties, etc. Now, it's one candidate down, maybe those people who are running just for running sake should quit now too. And when the time comes for Senator Escudero to run for higher position, maybe just maybe I will vote for him. A lot will happen still many years from now.

great point you raised here sandymay. candidates who have said they will join the presidential electiosn just fo rthe sake of joing will be doing our country a great favor by quitting early and limiting the preseidential elections to those who can put up a credible and sustained campaign around the waulity. after all, it does leave a bad taste in the mouth if a candidate can't even effectively campaign. cheers!!!

I'm very disappointed because I'm going to vote him. I think he is quitting because of Noynoy and I think no one going to support him financially. For me Escudero is very sincere and honest politician. If ever he going to run again in next election I'm going to vote him.

hi agv0419! you share the sentiments of others who think noynoy running as president also contributed to chiz escudero's decision to withdraw his bid for presidency in 2010. anyway, at least, you have more time now to study the programs and performances of those running in the next national elections to make an informed choice as to who you will vote for. cheers!!!

I don't really know what are his plans. He was suddenly out of the limelight of the Philippine politics. I don't know what would become of him.

hi ethan! well, he divulged his plans just this morning. he won't be joining next year's elections. chiz was being honest with himself that now is not the right time for him to run either for the president or vice-president slot. he did say that he wants to run for president but not at all cost meaning he does not want to sacrifice his beliefs for the sake of winning the presidency. it just goes to show how honorable the man is. cheers!!!

as much as any candidate would like to run if there are budget constraints then he is forced to give up his ambition. this does not only apply to chiz who had big plans early this year but was suddenly removed from the spotlight. first he decided to run as vice president to being independent vp candidate to nothing. true that our politics is indeed dismal but we cannot say that past politicians before were really honest. it is rumored that Ramos owns a mall in Singapore. maybe we are now more aware and concerned that's why we express our opinion but we do not know if the change really is for the better or worse.

hi mommyfied! agree with you there. i did mention in another discussion that a political party, the machinery and war chest it provides, is very important for a candidate to undertake a serious campaign en route to winning the elections regardless of the position. much more so since next year is the national elections. i doubt that chiz escudero can launch and sustain a nationwide campaign with his limited resources. anyway, i'm giving chiz escudero for realizing that early in the game and gracefully exiting next year's elections. cheers!!!

hi there, All I can say is..."craziness to the highest level" lolz I like Chiz a lot! I mean, he is the only candidate that I like seeing run for VP or even presidency. For me, he is SO qualified to run for that category. He made some good points about our economy and people's welfare. He is one of the most active young senators we have today. He is not a "trapo" (traditional politician) and his capabilities and quality as a good government official was shown throughout his service. So I think he is indeed a good choice for most voters like me. I'm a bit sad, but you know things might change and he might still run, who knows. (I hope!..) Happy Lotting!

hi danitykane! agree with you there 'craziness tot he highest level' indeed!!! chiz is one of the most qualified to run either as president or vice-president. he also has presented a solid government program that addresses the issues of poverty and education so him quitting the race is really disappointing. he did say that now is not his time and who knows, this might be a blessing in disguise for chiz and his supporters. without the distraction of running in the election, he has more time to study the current issues affecting the country and come up with solutions. also, chiz is young and this is workign for him since he can definitely run agian by 2016 and use the years to coem to build up his own political party if it is needed. cheers!!!

Chiz is still young and still have a lot to learn. Maybe he was convinced that without a political machinery behind your back its very difficult to win. Good thing that he realized it before it's too late. I'm sure Chiz already know this because he came from a family of politicians, see link for the list of Chiz's relatives who hold public office, http://www.i-site.ph/Databases/Congress/13thHouse/relatives/escudero-relatives.html. Cheers!

chiz is still young and has a lot of years ahead of him. he is intelligent and he knows how important a political machinery is in getting elected. perhaps him quitting the npc is just one step and he tried testing the waters so to speak if the support that he is presently getting from the youth and socio-civic sectors is enough to bring him all the way to malacanang in 2010. it's a good thing he realized this early. perhaps his next step is to start at the grassroots level and build a party of his own just my two cents. cheers!!!
