What's all this Themed nonesense?

The local council has gone mental. First they "theme" a local fun day with kids TV characters and now, get this, they came up with a "theme" bonfire night. Doesn't bonfire night have a theme already - you know Guy Fawkes, burn the terrorist... Apparently what is really needed is Bob the Builder or Pippa Pig and none of that traditional stuff. Of course the cynic in me thinks that what it is all about is using pester power for getting people through the gate at their fee paying events whilst they do everything they can to kill off traditional grass roots events that are not profit making. Just wanted to ask, does your region or country have traditional festivals that are being hijacked in this way?
