Can you explain why it's ok to charge that much for popcorn?? It's not like it's expensive for them to buy or anything. I usually eat before I go to the movies because I refuse to pay their ridiculous prices for junk food. At our local theatre, it would be very hard to bring in a big tote bag because they check purses, bags, etc. They claim it's for security reasons, but I'm pretty sure it's to check to make sure you are not bring any snacks or drinks in.

I dont see nothing wrong with bringing own drinks and candy. I tote large bag and I take my drink with me. It very expensive to buy at the movie theater. I dont feel like paying over 2to 3 dollars just for drink.

As a former manager of movie theater I can say that the reason concession prices are so high is because theaters only get to keep about 10% of their ticket sales. If concession prices were lower they would not be able to afford to pay their employees. In our theater we had to make a certain percentage of concession sales depending on what our ticket sales were. If we did not meet that amount then we had to get rid of employees. When we had to get rid of employees we ended up with long lines in concession and customers complained about that too. The theaters can never win in any situation.

I think if you want to bring your own than bring your own,I do it all the time, because the food at the movies has gotten so exspensive.

I agree HomerBundy! Why does that stuff have to be so expensive. You know they have got to be able to buy it much cheaper then they sell it. You can buy those boxes of candy at wal-mart for .88! I understand they have to pay for electricity and things but with the amount of people coming in and the prices of the movies they could charge a little less for food.

I don't know why you shouldn't. If you needed hand cream and they didn't sell that, should they ban you from bringing in hand cream?

When you take several children it's the only way to make it affordable. Most theaters here in AZ allow you to bring in your won bottled water..I do buy their popcorn..but often will bring my own sweets...

If you don't think that it is wrong for them to charge $4 for 20oz of fountain pop, then yes it is wrong. But if you think that the way they charge for crap is insane, then keep bringing your own stuff. I only bring my own stuff because they're making like 300% profit on the consessions.

Took my mom to the movie the other day. Movie tickets cost 16.50. Popcorn, pop and m&m's cost 13.75. I think that is just a little bit ridiculous?

I don't think it is wrong at all. I have 3 kids and we take our own almost every time we see a movie. If they want more people to stop bringing their own, maybe they can lower their prices some. To watch a movie here its like $7 a person, $3+ a soda,$3 for candy, and $4+ for popcorn. This to me is quite expensive as some here don't even make $7 an hour when they work. One can wait til it comes out on video and although it may not be as big of a screen, you can pause it when "ya gotta go" or play it over and again with a rental of the same price as only 1 of the people you had to pay for just to get in the door at the movie theater.

It depends. I take my own candy into my local theater because the stuff is so overpriced. However, at a theater just outside of town, I buy everything because it's sooooo much cheaper. Drinks cost about the same everywhere, so whatev.
