Some months ago, I had a habit of dedicating discussions to football legends or good football players still in activity. I don't consider these discussions to be milestone discussions that would be against the guidelines - I just want the members that love football to remember such players that brought or bring us great joy by their performance. I hate creating such discussions under "soccer", as I strongly disapprove of this term, but most of the people loving football post under "soccer", leaving the interest called "football" to those discussing on American football. The football legend I'd like you to remember today, on his 45th birthday is Roberto Mancini. Mancini is probably remembered with great joy by the Sampdoria and Lazio Roma fans, as he won many trophies as part of these teams - one Italian League title with Sampdoria and one with Lazio, 4 Italian Cups with Sampdoria and 2 with Lazio, one Cup Winners' Cup with Sampdoria and one with Lazio. After he stopped playing football, Mancini coached Fiorentina (1 Italian Cup won), Lazio (1 Italian Cup won) and Inter Milan (3 Scudetti, 2 Coppa Italia). The trophies won coaching Inter Milan make him the most successful coach of this club in the last 30 years, but he was replaced with Mourinho because Inter didn't do very well in the Champions League under his command. Do you remember Mancini for his playing and coaching abilities? What do you think of him?

I think Roberto Mancini was a great player and a great coach too. I can still remember him as a mezza punta for the Bluecerchiati. He did well at Sampdoria in tandem with Vialli. He came to coach my favourite club after 17 years of not winning any serie A title. So yes I still remember his first serie A title under his guidance. He is a great coach, and I did not agree with the president to fire a loyal coach as roberto mancini was.

He started pretty well at Manchester City too. It's true he arrived at the club just when Tevez is at the top of his shape, but I think he'll manage to get Man City to the Champions League.

I wished he stayed with us. Mourinho is not a bad coach either.

ya,mancini is known as one of the greatest playmaker and forward in Sampdoria.I think i prefer choose Mancini as a player than a coach. when he is in inter, he is lucky i think. he is lucky with many greatest player in his team and several of seven magnificent team like Milan, Juventus, lazio and Parma is in worst time when Mancini as a Inter coach. only Roma can compete with Inter in his era.

I couldn't agree more - Inter is not even close to being a world class team right now (just look at the European competitions achievements), but the other Italian teams are doing even worse.

ya, inter is only superior in Italy league but Inter is nothing in european league. i dont know why , but i think because Inter had no mentality to win when play in european league. they had no mental like Juventus and Milan in european league

Somehow, I have not followed Mancini's career at the club level as a player. All that I have seen of him is more recently as the manager at Inter Milan. He led Inter to back to back Scudetti. But the failures that he had on the Champions League front probably got him the boot and he got replaced by Jose Mourinho. But the funny thing is the Mourinho also won the Scudetti, but no the Champions League!! Happy B'day Mancini. Cheers! Ram

I don't remember Mancini very well as a player either. I know him from the Squadra Azzurra, but he wasn't a first team regular there. He was just in my memory as a good football player. He came back into the spotlight as a coach and I think he had an important contribution in winning the 3 titles (actually 2, as one was taken from Juventus after the Calciopoli scandal).

Hi Spartan, I so badly want to reply intelligently to one of your discussions, but every time I come across them, they are something that I know nothing about. :( I dont know anything about football. . Wish you'd start something I could respond to. :)

Sorry, but I don't know anything about cricket... Tomorrow I'll be going to a rugby match. If I manage to get in (I hear ALL the tickets have been sold) I'll post something on rugby too I really am not too much of a discussion creator, I prefer responding. There are too many discussions here and it's hard to discuss an original topic - most topics have already been discussed... I've been considering a couple of discussions to start but I'm still pondering if they are appropriate for posting (one is on sports generally and the other on fruits).

I think I'll be ok with the one on fruits, provided I've heard of and tasted the fruits. :) Why is it that we live on the same planet, and have different fruits growing in different places. We get some australian fruits out here (kiwi) and I dont know which part of it should be eaten. LOL. And then artichoke. If I'd found it here, I would be drying it and keeping it in my show case, it looks so cute. But I will still check it up if you can write something about bananas, or grapes. :) Kidding. :) You are welcome to write whatever you want. I am only interested in improving my language. So I will come and write something so that you can correct me. :)
