Sense of Smell: Does Yours Increase In The Middle of The Night?

Let me explain: I've noticed that when I wake up in the middle of the night, my sense of smell gets REALLY strong. I can smell the rubbish in the kitchen to the point of wanting to go and empty it (I've actually gotten up and done that a few times). But everytime when I wake up the next day, I can hardly smell anything. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or if you've read or heard of it happening to someone else. Is the strong smell something I imagine at night? Or is it a form of sleepwalking? I can't for the life of me figure out why it's happening. Any input/thoughts/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, mine gets worse! The first time I wake up, about an hour after I get to sleep, my nose is running. The next time it's a little stuffed and I can't smell a thing. By morning my poor nose is so stuffed up that I couldn't smell a skunk if it was sleeping beside me!

Are you sure you haven't got blocked sinuses? Have you been to the doctor's?

Doctors are expensive. I'm pretty sure it's allergies and generic Claritin clears it up in the morning. Thanks for your concern.

Hmm, ok, well take care. (p.s. does it tend to happen to you more at a particular season or is it all year round?)
