The true meaning of the word religion

With so many religions out there, it's easy for debates to occur over which is the correct one. But my question is - why does there have to be a correct religion? I believe that God, in any form or name you may give him/her, is forgiving. Most religions focus mostly on life values and morals. Therefore, all religions are almost created equal and the religion one chooses is based on their own ethics. Why do we have to hate each other over it? I wish that everyone could just understand that all religions have the same general objectives and stop being ignorant to those who do not share their religious views. I am in no way persuading anyone to not believe in a religion in this post, I am simply saying that it makes me angry to know that so much hatred occurs because of different cultural and personal values we follow. Do you agree?

Religion according to the American Heritage Dictionary is a set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. Nowadays, religion became a personal or institutionalized system and it is very much unavoidable that many new religion arises which lead people to false prophecy and teachings. I don't one to mention these religion, but I know lots of it. Religion cannot save anyone, but faith can do. Believing in our Sovereign God and accepting His salvation, is what can save us from our sins not a religion itself. I believe that the main reason why there are lots of conflicts between different religion is that each religion do not share the same belief and faith as well... and others had a different god to worship. Religion are not created equally, it is created to gather people having the same belief... that is why many religion arises for that people believe in a lot of things and point of views in this world. I could say that the best way to prevent hatred from other believer is to be united by one faith that Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life... God bless to all.

You are right - Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Him. djbtol

that statement as been so wrong for many years now,he said i am the way the truth and the light, what he truly meant to say was not hoe u r all looking at it,jesus was talking through the power of soul meaning soul is the way the truth and the light none can come to the father but through it,the path of soul, that will be so hard for u to digest, because u never heard it like that before, well thats how it is,stop waiting on jesus to come rescue u,we are all responsible for our actions why does everyone keeps looking to someone else to clean their mess for them, find the way through the power of soul, that is what he was saying,

Well let me explain the thing in little simple way, you know the word religion is belong to God, every religion must have one God and ways to approach/worship God. so ok now we can agree that there is one God, now lets talk about the way to worship, well a simple example if God make us then he must make some manual or reason to make also. so where is that manual which God make for human to follow the right path and to do deeds which God like. and surely if you want to worship God or wanna live smoothly then you must follow that manual that is religion. well in any form is little confusing like one person loves you and you also Love him but what you feel if that person do not come to you and make a image of you and start loving it as you ??? surely you will annoy that if i m here in real then why you are loving that image or idol so God Love you and You Love God so He want you to worship Him direct not in any form that's why we have to search the correct way. although we do not show hater to others but you know i can see one thing is that all religion are very good and show you the right way but its the followers who make it complicated and trouble for others.

Popular etymology among the later ancients, and many modern writers connects religion with religare "to bind fast". The binding of people for a good cause is the true meaning of religion. But it is a pity that people are bound to do the most atrocious and barbaric acts in the name of religion from time immemorial.

I understand exactly what you are saying in this post. I don't think it matters Jewish ,Christian,Muslim,Buddist.......... Every religion and their holy books all teach to love thy neighbor,Do not kill, steal, cheat, lie, honor thy mother and father and so forth. They all try to teach us to do what is right and turn away from evil. I was baptized Catholic that doesn't mean that I believe everything the church teaches. Actually I'm a non practicing catholic but that sure doesn't mean that I don't believe in a higher power(God by any given name) and that I must do my very best to do right here in this world. I don't believe any religion is 100% correct in what they want us to practice I mean God in the Bible tells Moses not to worship false Gods or images yet the catholic church is full of statues. I feel we all need to respect each others beliefs and if nothing else listen to other. People would be surprised how much all religions are alike. There is no need for hatred. Its a waste of precious time here on earth that we should use for more precious meaningful things. Such as friends (new and old) family, and of course God himself by what ever name his followers call him.

I totally agree to your point, however religion will always be different for everyone in many different ways and so long as someone steps up to stop fighting/hatred caused by religious beliefs, then no one will do anything about it and the fighting/hatred would go on.

Almost all religions are promoting good morals of course. But many are just man made laws. Almighty God -Our Creator- has given some guidance which give the right moral values and also the ways to reach the level of that moral which many religions don't have. When God created mankind, God informed that when guidance comes from God via messengers as scriptures follow them, they will not have to grieve. So I simply don't bash other religions, But I used to show the fault using their own scriptures itself to make the followers think it. Also God says If you can show the right way of live to anyone it is better than getting everything in this world. And I used to explain the beautiful faith of Islam to others.

Maybe they're all the correct ones. Same characters with different names. Stories changed slightly based on what was seen. There's always going to be different versions based on what different people saw. They may all sound completely different, but actually all be the same. Wouldn't it be funny to learn that everyone believed in the same thing, and we are all fighting with each other foolishly for nothing? muahahhahahahhahaa

I agree that hatred is coming from different views in life. This is also a kind of nonacceptance of different opinion. But if we base our views from the bible about religion and let the bible explain to us. I don't think we are deem one another beliefs. But we can't really avoid of misunderstanding because of different education that we have in our society. There are people that did not believe in God. People that have different views about God purpose. People have force believers that God is an image. If we only base on the bible. I think we can lessen those hatred and fight that result to violence.

I thought you understood that we are all on a mission from God. What is the mission you ask???? The mission is to convert everyone to our way of thinking!!!!!!! Hold it! hold it! My mistake. That's religion's mission!!!!Soon that turns into being RIGHT or RIGHTEOUS. Hey, God does have a mission for everyone. Not many know what it is. God wants us to learn all the secrets of the universe especially the most important lesson along the way, How to love unconditionally. From your discussion, looks like you are well on your way.

A Correct religion, that's a lot like saying cold fire, doesn't exist. Unfortunately a lot of people get so caught up in religion that they can't seem to realise when it takes you into the dark side so to speak.

And you are correct to call Humanism a religion. It is certainly a set of beliefs. Humanism and Evolution are two religions fully accepted and promoted in every public schools system in the U.S. djbtol

Religion is just a bunch of beliefs put together and passed down from generation to generation. One often thinks that their religion is superior than anothers yet each persons beliefs are their own. And it dosnt make it right or wrong. Therefore religion is a belief which is just an opinion.

If religion consists only of man's tradition, then it will not be worth much in the end. Only God Himself provides the true religion and the only Salvation through Jesus Christ.

I think everyone have own religion. I like your picture- circle of religion symbols and in the center is the heart. That is the true meaning of all religion-love :). They all say the same things. Why there so much type of sugar and all of them do the same thing- sweeten? The answer is because of difference type of people. That is why we have so much religions because they are so many difference countries and cultures. But in the end the results are the same- religions makes our life better and sweeter.
