Peace in troubled times

We all face problems and situations beyond our control nearly everyday of our lives. There are financial problems, family situations, health crises, and the economic situation with all of its implications. It is in these difficult times that we often lean on the Scriptures for strength, guidance, and peace more than any other. I often rely on the Scriptures to calm my soul when everything around me is hectic and beyond my control. It eases my mind by reminding me that even when everything around me seems to be out of control, God has everything in control. This is something that I learned from many Scriptures, but the one that stands out in my mind the most is Psalm 46. In this passage, the writer describes a scene of utter chaos where the earth is going through an upheaval. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, peace can be found with verse 10, "Be still and know that I am God". We often dread the difficult times and rightfully so, but the truth is that we are all going to face problems. We can find peace that can calm us and be our strength through God's Word. What are some verses of Scripture that seem to help you most when you are going through a difficult time and why are they special?

you are so right scott! Jesus is the only one that can offer any type of hope in this dying world. i like the passages you have mentioned but i guess my favourite verse is zepheniah 3:17. it is because i work at a non profit, Christian organization that seeks to reach the unreached.

The hope that Jesus offers in this life is so much greater than anything this world could ever begin to offer! Sometimes I ask myself the question, "Why do I search for hope and peace in the world that surrounds me?" We all fall prey to that at some point or another, but the fact is, only God can bring true hope and peace into the hearts and lives of people. Zephaniah 3:17 is an amazing verse of Scripture and it always reminds me of that worship song, "Mighty to Save".

Greetings Scott. Off the top of my head I think of where Christ told His disciples, "Fear not little flock...,";"My peace give I unto you,";"Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world,";"Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,";and where He said He would not leave us as orphans, but would send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.

I like what you have said my friend. This topic is something close in my heart. I like hearing that people have a strong faith in our Almighty God no matter how many trials they faced in life. For me, whenever I feel alone, afraid, and don't know what to do... I always remember the verse from the book of Isaiah that says (Isaiah41:10) "do not be afraid for I am your God, do not fear for I am with you. I will strengthen you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand". And when I am in doubt or confused in decision making, I recite in my mind the verse from the book of Psalm (Psalm25:4-5) that says "show me your ways, Oh Lord. Teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me for you are God my Savior and my hope is in you all day long". and lastly.. whenever I feel that I am in great need.. I just keep in mind the verse that says "seek first the kingdom of God, and all this things will be added into you".These are my life's verse, which give me strength and a peace of mind. Thanks for sharing this discussion. God bless.

the book of Psalm is a good book to read whenever you are facing problem. many of them were written after the writer had undergone some serious problem and God delivered them out of it. and some of them were written as the writer is still facing those problem but decide to worship the Almighty God through praises.
