The cell phone companies here on the island have picked up the annoying habit of promoting their products by sending you a text or phone call .Consequently you maye be doing something important and then you get a ring or beep only to answer in your sweet sexy voice and hear a machine at the other say ...we ar epromoting new bling back tunes or hot new cell phone deals arrrghh ,makes you want to kill someone... Is this a trend where you live for cell phone companies to advertise products by calling or texting and without your permission ?

My cell phone lays in my room on the dresser 99 % of the time. I'm not aware of getting calls like that. I really don't know why i even have one really, lol.

I generally don't get those types of messages. Once in a super blue moon, I'll get a free message from my carrier, but its usually something important like known downtime if going to be in a certin area, or something like that. Or I get my bill payment confermation messages sent directly to my cell. If I'm busy at the time I simply ignore it, but thats the one good thing about T-mobile, messages like questioned above almost never get sent to me. of course I was smart enough to opt-out. Check with your carrier. Often there is a way to opt-out of messages like that, and you would only be notified of something important that is a must-know.

LOL you are not aloneā€¦I know of many people (my husband included) who would really like to throw back that phone that very instant at the voice at the other end (if only that was possible!) It is particularly trying when you are in the midst of doing some very important paper work or maybe expecting an important message and you rush across to read the message and its only another promo call! Its the same here in India, if that is any consolation to you

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you are wanting to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS OR GO TO: www.donotcall.gov

I always receive long text messages from Smart promoting this and that and it really annoyed me. Sometimes my battery would be exhausted just because of the many SMS they are sending. They would also offer me to subscribe to this and that promotion and worse one time I noticed even if I did not accept the invitation to subscribe, my load was deducted of subscription fee. That really made me mad so that one day I called Smart and lambasted them with the sharpest words they deserve. The lady who answered me was helpless and promised all deductions they did will be returned. And true enough they returned all that they deducted and since then they don't send me any promotions again.

I'm in Indonesia, and yes, I get daily calls, sometimes 3 or 4 calls on my cell phones a day from sales people promoting a product. And I do get mad at times, because sometimes I'm driving, and I have to frantically reach for the phone..somewhere in my big bag...and arwggghhh...its a sales person trying to get me to accept a new credit card ! So what I do now, is I buy another number that only very important person and families know about, and I never write them down on forms that I have to fill out. So if an unknown number rings from my old cell phone, I ignore it.

Yes!I am from India and I get more text messages like that.I just delete them and forget them forever.About the voice calls,I don't get much as I live in a little town(may be the city people get a lot).Yet,If I receive a call like that,I will politely refuse them in the start and close the call.
