What would yopu do if your neighbor ran over your dog and killed it and never stopped to see if it was okay or came to tell you. But one of your other neighbors saw this happen and told you? Should you call the police or confront the neighbor.?

I think that's horrible that your neighbor didn't say anything, and I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I would definitely confront your neighbor about it just to give you some kind of closure. I don't really think the police can do anything about it, unfortunately. Hang in there, and again, I'm so sorry.

nanamerry actually if you run over a dog and do not stop to help or get help, and notify the owner, you commit either a felony or a misdemeanor, not sure which but it is a criminal offense. yes call the police as you are supposed to stop if you run over a dog, I think this is in every state in the US. Give them the information about the neighbor running over the dog and just leaving as it is an offense and punishable.

I just checked by googling and it is an offense, if you hit a person or an animal of any kind you are to stop and give assistance and report it to the police within 24 hours to not 'do this is a punishable crime.

Thank you Hately, I think we have this resolved now, He didn't even realize that he had done this. He is an older gentelman and he feels terriable about it. My other neighbor told him he saw him do it. I thought at first he hit Smoochie and didn't care. But it was just an accident. Thank you for your kind words.

I would definitely the neighbour because I believe that there are things that can be solved without the intervention of the law .Offcourse I am making this statement on the premise that you and your neighbour have cordial relationship but even if we dont then I would confront the neighbour first .I would like to find out if he/she knew about killing the dog because it may have been an accident .If the neighbour is unrepentant then maybe I would think of calling teh police or letting it slip ,it all depends on how I felt at the time.
