My BF saw this at the doctor's office yesterday and picked one up for me, as I suffer from migraines. I read it and about choked! I am anxious to know what you think. Here are the "Potential Triggers" Foods Red wines, aged cheese, chocolate (that is a bad one for me to give up!), MSG, Nitrates (IE Hot dogs and deli meats) Caffeine withdrawal, and missing meals altogether. Physical: Changes in sleep patterns Stress Fatigue Intense Physical activity Environmental: Bright sunlight Chemical smells Tobacco smoke Changes in weather Okay, I looked at the list and the first thing that passed through my mind is that you might as well give up and seal yourself in a bubble. How many of us live stress free, don't get tired, and aren't involved in some sort of intense physical activity (uhhh house cleaning, mowing the lawn, chasing after the kids and animals... give that up!) Then you can't take that vacation to Hawaii (no bright sunlight!) you can't clean the house because of the chemical smells (cleaners with ammonia etc) and we will always face changes in weather. I realize that this isn't a cut and dried chiseled in stone type list, but still it is rather amusing to think that to avoid migraines.... This was put out by Merck pharmaceuticals. I am still trying to get them to put me on the list to receive my migraine medications for free because I can't afford them (I take Maxalt and they are $75 a pill!)

I suffered from a severe headache last week and it still scares me everytime when i think of it. I guess its migraine though. The list is not helpful.Even living in a forest can't help you avoid sunlight!

I read a couple of years ago, in "Woman's World" that vitamin B2 would help in controlling migraines. I was skeptical and bought some. I took a few and then didn't take anymore. I would have several migraines a month. I got the bottle out and started taking one daily and I haven't had a migraine for the past 6 months. I have had minor headaches but NOTHING like the migraines I have suffered from in the past. Needless to say I am not going to give up the B2!! They're only 100 mg tablets but they sure do the trick!

I have to laugh at that list Loverbear...you're right one might as well live in a hermetically sealed bubble and be in the dark all the time...I mean changes in weather? I don't know of any place on earth that doesn't have weather changes and the weather is the same day in and out. I'm sorry you have migraines must be really terrible...you see I can't picture how bad it is to suffer from them as I don't even get regular headaches...how I've managed that I don't know..LOL. And yikes that medication is $75 a pill...sheesh

Actually that is a cheaper medication. Some that have been prescribed for me were over $150 a tablet. I should have become a stock holder in the pharmaceutical companies! I am sooo jealous! I have headaches on a regular basis and swallow tylenol to try to beat them back...I can't imagine a time without pain and without headaches. Of course the last time I didn't have pain was September 21, 1982. How is that for remembering a date and what I was feeling like that day? The next day is when I had the OJI that left me disabled.

I am glad that someone else saw the humor in the list! I was beginning to feel like an idiot for seeing the funny side of the list!

all the triggers mentioned, i had experienced... but most of the time is i think the change in sleep pattern because most of the time, my sleep i altered due to the timings of my duty... shifting duty,,, and i think another i s the change of weather specifically hot weather for iam living in a country with very hot weather during summertime...
