Health problems and weight gain

Hi all! About a year and a half ago my wonderful hubby bought me a Wii and Wii Fit for our anniversary. I was very overweight at that time. I started watching calories and using my Wii every day and lost 50 lbs in 6 months. I felt great, looked pretty good and was very happy with my results. Then I had to stop exercising for several months when hubby had surgery. I was still maintaining, but I developed tendonitis in my wrist, and then in my hip. I have been fighting the pain ever since and cannot get back into exercising because of it. I also took on a second job that keeps me sitting at the computer several hours each evening. I have now gained 40 lbs back and I am very frustrated by the whole thing. Today my Dr started me on steroids to see if it will help the pain, but I also know they can cause weight gain. I'm planning to give the meds a week to start working and then I'm going to try to exercise again. Anyone have any suggestions, cautions, etc, before I start this all over again?

You have my true sympathy. I am in a kind of similar situation, only it was two major surgeries of my own this year plus my husband being laid off for five months. I've regained about thirty pounds of the one hundred I lost and it's really doing a number on my head. Talk about demoralizing! I'm really trying to get my act together again. I, too, have pain issues that interfere with exercise, and they are worse with the weight gain, so I have to gt it back off! My plan is to do what exercise I can. My doctor said if I can't do much at a time, then do it more often! I plan to start writing down what I eat and measuring again. That should help a lot. I'm going to cut back on the bad carbs like breads and increase vegetables and lean meats. I already drink a lot of water. I'm wishing you the best of luck. (We need to learn to be patient with ourselves and stick to it no matter what, as we do our best to get back on track.)

It is demoralizing, isn't it?! I think I will start by measuring food again, and avoiding the bad stuff (hard to do this time of year). Hoping the steroids do the trick...hang in there, we did it once, we can do it again!

Let's keep in touch. We can support each other. My daughter is arriving today, my son is coming home over the weekend sometime. I don't know how the holidays will go, food-wise, but I am going to do my best. I now neither of my kids want to gain weight, so providing healthful low cal meals instead of junk would be doing them a favor, too.

Hi firemom, I have a few relatives who take steroids...I wanted to ask one thing if you wont consider it rude? Is there no other way other than taking steroids? there are many side effects to it and some are very dangerous. I do not mean to scare you, but that is what I have seen so far. About weight, you can control diet and start excercising with the limited time you have. Get well soon and get back in shape soon...

No, not rude at all. Actually, the steroids are a last resort. I have tried many other medications over the past year with no results or terrible side effects. I have taken steroids in the past without problems, so I finally agreed to try them now. The pain is what keeps me from exercising, so once the pain is releived, I will definately find the time to exercise.

Hi firemom31! It's been a while since I've seen one of your discussions. I guess that 2nd job you mentioned took your myLotting time huh? Sorry about your health problems. I wouldn't have any clue how to help you. Just wanted to get in this discussion to say hi. Hope you figure it out.

lol! Hi! Thanks for stopping by to say hello. You're right about the extra job. I spend every evening working online, just taking a few breaks (like right now). I'm working through oDesk, and I'm not complaining, but way too much time sitting on my rump.
