Out of the Norm?

Why are people so afraid of doing things that are out of the norm? Yes you feel uncomfortable at first, but there is nothing wrong with going out of the norm. Society focuses so much on conformity that people live their daily lives doing what everyone is used to doing. BUT once someone talks to them about doing something different, they are too closed-minded to listen and participate because it seems too different for them to handle. I am not sure the correct way to word that but I hope you understood what I was trying to say. I don't understand why people are too ignorant and can't be more open-minded.

I think a lot of people just want to fit in and be popular and they think that conformity is the way to achieve that. there's no point in having the gift of free will if we dont use it. I cant think of anything more boring than everyone acting/thinking in the same way! I do think that most people are more tolerant of non-conformity than they were 20 - 30 years ago but there is a big difference between being tolerant and embracing it. Be yourself and enrich the world with your ideas
