We have a new mayor in my town who is a Republican after at least a couple of decades with a Democrat as mayor, most of that time with the same man as mayor. One difference already is that the old Democrat mayor most of the time had to have a new expensive car provided by the city(a car provided by the city is one of the official perks of the job), but the new Republican mayor chose to take an older car from the city fleet and refused the new car offered to him.

and people say republicans are greedy, but honestly, as you have noticed, I find the Democrats are worse.

That's a good way to start his stay in office. Doesn't sound like he feels entitled at all. And with these economic times, it's nice to know some politicians don't feel they are above their fellow man when it comes to cutbacks.

I always appreciate gestures like that...it shows respect for the taxpayer. I've often wondered why candidates running for federal office who talk about the federal debt level don't ever seem to offer to work at half salary. That would show that they really are serious about saving taxpayer money, even when it doesn't benefit them. They'd still be making a fair bit more than the average person and could still benefit in the future from their status in the government (it often leads to a career as a public speaker, writer, lobbyist, or TV pundit...presidents tend to make a lot more after they're out of office compared to when they are in office).
