Brides Maid Dresses: Fashionable or Fashion Faux Pas?

Bridesmaid Dresses - *Have you ever:
-Been a brides maid, or
-HAD brides maids at your wedding?

---For Brides:
***Did you choose the dresses or did you give your brides maids an idea of what you wanted (like a color scheme or design) and then let them choose their dresses?
***Did you make them wear an UGLY dress to make sure you were the prettiest woman at your wedding, or did you give them pretty dresses to wear?
***Did your bridesmaid pay for their own dresses?
***Would you do the whole "choosing of the brides maid dresses" differently if you had to do it all over again?

---For Brides maids:
***What is the most HORRIBLE brides maid dress you've ever worn? What was it made of and what did it look like? Do you have pix?
***Did you get to pick your own dress or not?
***Who paid for the brides maid dresses? Did you each buy your own?
***Whats the BEST brides maid dress you ever wore? What was it made of? What did it look like? Do you have pix?

hello there! i have been a bridesmaid just once! it was my uncle's wedding, and budget is limited and so they just told us the color motif for their wedding and let us choose whatever clothes we want to wear, but of course we show it to them before the wedding...what we just wear is a simple dress made of satin and color cream i think...and the bride is in white... and we just accessorized it with a flower bracelet with the color motif as the ribbon... simple but appears to be nice on pictures! hehe now, on my wedding day, i personally choose what clothes my bridesmaid will wear, but of course i also ask for their opinion, for the color, its my choice, and with the style its also mine coz there's some restrictions in our church when it comes to clothing...but again, i also consult them in everything and ask if its ok with them...well, all of them says yes and they like it actually... i want my bridesmaids to look good as well...and i am not afraid that they may be prettier than me on that special day...all i wanted is for all of us to compliment each other... their clothes are colorful & mine is white...so it looks nice according to our visitors... and as to payment of those clothes...hmmmm its 50-50 sharing! haha but if only i have more money that time, i will pay for everything...but too bad, budget is limited as well... and i will still choose the same set if i had to do it all over again...

Payment of clothes is 50-50?? If so, i wont wanna be your bridesmaid!! lol =D just kidding.. hehe PLus, there's a curse for being bridesmaid, but in your case, u have broken it.. hehe ^_^ How about bridesgroom then?? WIll others mistook him as the groom?? lol =D What happens if on the day of wedding, the groom is daddy, but bridesgroom is your 1st crush, will u be imagining that u are marrying either one of them?? lol =D

weh! nice to see you here! haha well anyway, yes its 50-50 sharing but they already knew it beforehand... and actually, they volunteered to be one of the bridesmaid...and they are even willing to pay 100% but i just told them that half will be mine...haha its their honor to be part of my entourage! haha with groomsmen...nope, they are not mistaken to be the groom, coz their clothes is very much different from daddy! hehe i think that will not happen, coz the choice of who will be the groomsmen are daddy's choice!

I'm not yet married, and i'm not a bridesmaid either.. lol =D All i know is that, bridesmaid are supposed to be pretty, but can never be more beautiful than the bride on the actual wedding day.. haha =D Because the attention and focus should be on the couple, whom are the main course, while bridesmaid are the side dishes, to complement the overwhole look.. hehe ^_^ When it comes to gowns etc, both of them looks the same to me, as they have to look good for the guest around too.. haha =D

I've never been a bride or bridesmaid either. Bridesmaids dresses are often scary, lol, but the black halter dresses in that picture are pretty and sophisticated. The bridesmaids surely won't mind people seeing the pictures later. lol I think people tend to make then to frilly, and girlie, and poofy. I guess they think it looks romantic or something. lol

hey baby! of course you will never be a bridesmaid! haha but have you been a groomsman? i think, even how pretty the bridesmaids are...the attention will still go to the bride & her groom for just like what you said, they are the main course of the occasion! :-) by the way, what is this curse in being a bride's maid you are talking about? that she will never be a bride? haha what i just know is that if she have become a bridesmaid thrice...then the curse will be there...haha but i'm not a believer of those things! but you know, a year before my own wedding, i have attended my cousin's wedding...and i am the one who got the boquet of the bride...actually i didn't catch it, it just go my way...and yes the next year, i also get married!

Catching the bouquet, while u really got married the following year, but not believing in the curse of bridesmaid.. lol =D

I was the bridesmaid for my bestfriend when she got married last year and this was like the first time I ever wore a gown in my entire life. The gown itself is fashionable and I can definitely wear it again, especially the skirt part. Its made of violet silk and is quite comfortable to wear.

I've been in a couple weddings. I didn't really care about the dresses, because it wasn't my wedding. I bought both my dresses and they weren't that bad. I have good friends who wouldn't humiliate thier best friends just to look good. One of my homegirls mentioned that it would make the whole wedding ugly to have ugly bridesmaid dresses, even if the colors matched. Which I found to be very logical. I mean why spend all this money on a cake and decorations and everything to make it beautiful if everyone is going to be staring at a bunch of chicks dressed like crazies. Not at a catholic ceremony! The other wedding I was in we got to pick out our own dresses and had to buy them so i bought something that I thought I could get some double mileage out of.

And if I ever decide that I want to try to find a marriage partner I definitely won't be making my bridesmaids look ugly either.

I like the purple one for my sister's wedding, then the pink one for my older brother's wedding, last the dress for my younger brother's wedding. Mine were a powder blue, knee length, made with the idea that they could be worn again. The fabric didn't cooperate very well though...

Yah I want to choose good bridesmaid dresses for mine so that they won't be embarrassed, and so they can reuse them again. IDK if I will ever remarry, I hope so, but I've already chose a few ideas for dresses to go with each of the wedding dresses I like.

I'm neither married nor have been a bridesmaid (the closest I came to that was being a flower girl in two weddings), but I can tell you right now that if I ever do get engaged and I hear an excessive amount of moaning and groaning about bridesmaid gowns, there will be one or two less people in my bridal party. I sound like an utter witch and arrogant as the devil, but the planning stages are going to be stressful enough without adding the complaints of bridesmaids to the mix. Frankly, if you can't be happy about the honor of being in a wedding, then you really shouldn't be in a bridal party at all.

I dind't have bridesmaids when I got married. my sister did (I was in her wedding party) and the dresses were nice. They were rather plain in colour (a chamagne beige), and short, but they were a lot better than some of those hideous dresses that one used to see on bridesmaids. LOL

I would call "Champaigne" or "Beige" a a PLAIN color, persay, but rather a simple, unimposing, but elegant color. :)
