Whoever invented Magic Sing, Vidoke or Karaoke for homes should be shot

I really hate it. I know that its the holidays and people want to relax. But not at the expense of other people who may want to sleep. Or want peace and quiet. So whoever invented karaoke or magic sing and made it affordable should be shot. Imagine people singing at the top of their lungs up to the wee hours of the morning. I don't know why people should put the volume on high and even connect the darn thing on speakers. Does it make their horrible voices better? NO! I am ranting here because my neighbor is at it again, singing at the top of their voices and they were singing up to 5am this morning. I could call our village security guards and ask them to lower down the volume, but this will make us look like kill-joy people that we are. Now do you annoy your neighbors with this device? Or are you like me who is one of those annoyed by the loud noise made by singing neighbors?

Hi anne25penn. I do share your sentiment. Right at this very moment, as I respond to your post, our neighbor, just opposite us is having their sing-a-along. And , irritating as it may seem, the volume seems to be at its maximum. Some people just could not seem to care about the people around them. All they think of is themselves.

If anyone has a magic sing or karaoke with them right now, does it say on the instruction manual to turn it on full volume? I think not. I don't know why people want to create a racket just to sing.

You are right about that. I believe that I will not be able to sleep as scheduled right now because of the freakin' noise that they are creating. No matter how nice the songs they are singing right now, I do not get to appreciate it because this is supposed to be my time that I need to relax.

And when your body is asking for rest or sleep, every noise gets magnified three times making it impossible to sleep. I do hope you did get some sleep with all the noise in your neighborhood.

Hi there anne25penn! I know what you mean. And yes, I understand how you feel. Our neighbors do the same quite very often but I must say that it is, to some extent, tolerable. Good thing the other neighbor of ours left their house for their new home. When they were still here, they were really annoying. They would invite some friends over at least once a week and the Magic Sing becomes their best friend. Good thing they left for their new home.

How I wish my neighbors will have the decency to stop later when it gets real late. My mom hasn't been able to sleep well last night and she has cancer.

Hi there. Im sorry to hear about your mom. Some people are really insensitive with their actions. There must be a law in the local government that public recreation that can disturb nearby neighbors should only be regulated until 12pm. In other countries like Canada, people can file a complain against their neighbors if they become annoying and disturbing.

We have a local ordinance within the village where people should tone down their noise once it gets to 10pm. But this hasn't really been implemented and I recall one time where I asked the village security guards to ask my neighbors to lower the volume of their karaoke singing. What happened is they made it even louder and I had to go out and engage in a shouting match with them.

hi, anne25penn! the problem is with your neighbors, not the guy who invented the karaoke/videoke/minus one (i think it was roberto del rosario of trebel). the karaoke/videoke/minus one is one of the greatest things that happened to us. i do believe that a lot of us filipinos have learned to sing well because of that invention. as for your inconsiderate neighbors, you could talk/write to your homeowners' association so that your neighbors will stop doing that.

I have tried reporting these noise makers, but the homeowners association cannot do anything about it. They even told me to try "pakikisama", which will elicit another topic from me. I am already bracing myself for another bout of magic sing torture come New Year's eve. I only hope the fireworks will be louder and drown their singing voices out.

I know what you mean... but my family is guilty of that too... especially during christmas and new year... my father bought this magic sing... and they would use it everytime there is a gathering... i don't really sing but my cousins can really sing in tune... so i don't blame them if they want to show it off to others...

This is exactly why I hate the darn contraption. It is to "show off". Its the Filipino mentality of "I have this, you don't". And does it really make a difference singing at a low volume and having it connected to loud speakers? The only difference I see is that if plugged into loud speakers you get to annoy everybody. Sorry if I am foaming at the mouth here . Its just that I really haven't gotten over my trauma of hearing "My Heart Will Go On" out of tune.

I think it's about time that there should be a law and its strict implementation that no one uses any videoke machines and it's ilks within the residential areas. if these people would want to use it, they should have permissions coming from the barangay captains and these reveries should be done in a soundproof complex. the rationale, they have the money to party then they should have the ability to pay. Heavens, our neighbor is belting out Breathless by the Corrs.

I understand just how you feel, we used to live with our in-laws and the house next door always finds an excuse to bring out their videoke system and sing their hearts out. We still get them neighbors who sing out loud in the wee hours of the morning when the occasion comes, but we are fortunate enough that they are far enough to be heard but not so loud. It can be really annoying but it is the holiday season and we try to sleep through it when we can.

When we first moved here, I was attracted to the serene calm of my neighborhood. Which gets shattered once any of my neighbors decide to bring out their magic sing. The only solution we have right now is to try and find a way to soundproof our house so that when my neighbors decide to bawl out in the wee hours of the morning, we won't be tortured.

a friend of mine once told me that its a filipino who invented karaoke but having no support from the government, it was sold to a japanese and made the enhancement (this is unconfirmed). nevertheless, magic singers should somehow learn how to respect their neighbors especially when its late at night or should i say until early in the morning. its really annoying especially when singing high pitched songs and theyre kinda shouting it all out to reach the highest note as if it can be. or maybe they intend to make it louder for other neighbors who want some request.happy holidays anne25penn

The device or technology of karaoke is good. Its just that when people turn up the volume, this is where the problem begins. People can use it without having to disturb other people just because they want to sing.

I've got an idea, instead of singing along with music why not "read-along" Simon Cowell's comment in equal intensity (with British accent) to shut these people up for good!
• Philippines

I don't think these people will shut up, no matter what other people say about their singing.

I have a Magic Sing and I love using it from time to time. It polishes my voice (hmmm...) and I really enjoyed singing with it. And believe me, my neighbors love me because they don't have to rent a videoke when they have occasion in their homes. My Magic Sing became our compound's Magic Sing. For those reasons, I am not in favor of killing the inventors of those technology. In our compound though, people are conscious of the noise they are making at night time. We don't have any rules in the neighborhood but at 10PM, any party sounds have to be toned down. At 11PM till 12PM, no one uses videoke or karaoke any longer. Well, I don't think anyone wanted to be reported to the barangay office and get disciplined. If I'm you, I will persist in reporting the incident to the village security, or better yet, to the homeowners' association if there is one. If none, then you can invoke for the barangay to meddle. This is not being killjoy. This is just preserving quiet environment and for others to learn to be considerate even if they are in a party.

This is exactly my point. I have no problem with people wanting to bawl out and push their tonsils out trying to sing. People should take into consideration that other people are not amused with their singing.

I know man! Seriously! It's real annoying! It's really normal here in the Philippines! Like, you go out and go to provincial areas and here it! Plus, what makes it worse is that many of the people who have this is very horrible at it! Their voices sound disgusting! Ahh! Even here in a village, my neighbors sing at night and it's so horrible! They make the speakers even louder at times and I don't even know why!! gaaah!

I have nothing against people having fun because it is the holidays. But for goodness sake, you can sing with that darn contraption without having to hook it to loud speakers.

The creators of these technologies should not be blamed. It's the end user that must be blamed.Magic Sing, Karaoke or Videoke should not be used especially in the wee hours of the moring wherein people are asleep. These things should not be used when neighbors are already asleep. Or if they are fond of singing, they should have a rec room that is sound proof created for this purpose only. Yes, you may call security guards to tell them it is noisy because it is the security guard's job to maintain order in the subdivision.

Two nights in a row of not having enough sleep because of my noisy neighbors, my mom is now down with fever. So I really hate this contraption and if my neighbors start singing again tonight, I will make sure that they tone down their volume even if it means that I have a fight with my neighbors.

Blame the Japanese then, they invented "minus one", which became karaoke. ^^ But I'm with you on this one. If we invite Simon Cowell to spend a night in any ordinary barangay in this country, I bet ya by the time the night is over he'd be more miserable than the worst American Idol early auditions he's ever been through. Here's a thought. Someone should issue licenses for these devices. Like, you have to be vocally this good in order to own one. Or use one. I'm not even talking about Leona Lewis-Mariah Carey diva-like vocals, just a passably good vocals that won't irritate my eardrums. As it is, the people who have no business singing are the ones who are first in line whenever they see a videoke machine. And nowadays, one doesn't even need a magic sing or a dedicated videoke machine to belt their hearts out. The market is flooded with cheap generic China-made dvd players that have videoke functions. So every Tomas, Dikyo and Mario in the barrios get to harass the entire neighborhood with their gratingly flat voices. It has become standard binge-drinking fare, like the ubiquitous pulutan. And what I find more appalling is the so-called rating system in these devices. So even if you are the worst singer in the milky way galaxy, if you get a "perfect" rating from these devices (and it's easy to get one), it just spurs them more to sing another song. Aaarghh. Here in Baguio City, we do have a city ordinance against noise pollution, which covers among others, the use of excessive sound systems during the night. But it rarely gets enforced, and like you said, more often than not the one who complains gets vilified. And mind you, sometimes even the village guards are the ones who are perpetrating these attacks on aural decency. My weapon of choice during these inhumane episodes? An earbud plugged in my ears and my I-pod cranked high to drown out their pathetic attempts at singing. Happy holidays, anne. ^^ ~ sb802

I would not want to invite Simon Cowell in our baranggay of magic-sing-horrendous-singing people for his safety. We are all to familiar of news of people getting shot or stabbed just because of this darn thing. You're right about the rating system, it doesn't matter if they sing out of tune, it still gives them a good grade or rate. I will try the ear plugs but sometimes it doesn't really work. I am also a light sleeper so this makes it worse.

Videokes have already been a modern tradition in the Philippines. Some people just do not know where to draw the line. I think it is not their intention to annoy others, they're probably just too happy and hyped by their thing to even care about their neighbors.

I think it is common sense for people partying to tune down their volume once it gets to 9 or ten in the evening because people may be sleeping already. People just don't care and in the Filipino language, its "kayabangan". I own this device and you don't and I will attach it to every known speaker I can get so that everyone knows I own one.
