What did you get for Christmas?

Christmas day is a very special time for so many people and it has become a time that we give gifts to family and friends to show our love and appreciation for them. This began as a tradition because of the gifts that were brought to Jesus by the wise men as his birth centuries ago. A lot of the gifts that will be given will be big, extravagant toys, electronics, gadgets, vehicles, or whatever else, but those things aren't always the best gifts. The value of those things often fade with time. Interest in the object is quickly lost and it becomes just another trophy on the mantle of materialism. I'm not saying that all presents and gift giving is wrong. What I am saying is that many times we focus on all the presents that we have to buy and that we get, that we forget the whole reason we celebrate this day. It's not all about the presents we get and all that stuff. It's about the reason we celebrate; the birth of Jesus, the time of fun and fellowship with family and friends, those precious memories being seared into our minds for the rest of our lives. Finances are pretty tight around here this year and I wasn't able to get as much as I would like for my family, but I got creative. I did get my wife 2 big presents: a new cell phone and we went out for a nice dinner and to see the Rockettes perform. Other than that, I just got her a couple little things from Bath and Body Works (because she loves that place!). We spent most of our money on our son with this being his first Christmas. We got him some toys and clothes. The most special thing that I gave my wife and son this Christmas is that I wrote them both a personal note telling them how much I love them and what they mean to me. I know my son doesn't understand it now, but it will be saved so he can read it when he gets older. I also woke up at 4am this morning and put up our Christmas tree and decorated everything. We hadn't got to do this because of a lot of stuff that's been going on lately and we haven't had time. It was a big surprise for my wife and son! What are some special gifts that you have been given this Christmas? It could be something simple, or something big that you've been wishing for.

A notebook. 2 pens, an alarm clock, a bar of chocolate. It's kinda sad. But I'm grateful to receive this. I also got some Merry Christmas from my online friend and music teacher.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being grateful for those things! It's not all about the material things that we receive that make Christmas so special...it's the reason we celebrate and the time we get to spend with family and friends. If we were all a little more grateful for the small things that we receive in our lives, maybe our entire outlook on life would be much greater! I believe we focus so much on the materialistic aspect of what retailers call "Christmas" and we forget how to be thankful for the blessings we receive everyday! Thanks for your response!

I got two books that I wanted and got my hair done courtesy of my boyfriend.I'm getting to an place where if I want something, I go and get it; Or get something for someone who really cannot do for themselves. So, piggybacking from a book I read called The Christmas Jars and The Christmas Jars Reunion(which was one of my gifts), I started a jar for someone who may be struggling and catching their own problems. I think I'll feel better on that. But to twist the subject, if I wanted something, more so than anything, I'd say an Amazon Kindle. no lie.

There wasn't really a whole lot that I wanted for Christmas this year. My wife bought me a couple of books, a new flashlight, a pack of batteries for my wireless mouse, some energy drinks (that I seem to be addicted to LOL), some travel mugs so that I can take some coffee with me when I leave home, and some chocolate. I guess I did pretty well this year, especially since I really couldn't think of anything I wanted anyway LOL

Everyone was strapped for cash this year so I wasn't really expecting to get much but I was still surprised by some of things I got. My boss got me some earrings, they were pretty nice too. From my brothers I got a Where's Waldo book (it was very nostalgic because I remember them from my childhood days), a purple towel set, a Wal-Mart gift card, chocolate, various snacks like Pocky and such, a book, and money. But I think the best thing about Christmas at our house would be my mom's home cooked food and having my family together at the same place. There's nothing like it.

At my preschool the parents were very kind this year. I got a few gift cards and some home baked treats. It was really nice that they thought about us at all!

I got a watch which looks expensive from my new company one day before Christmas. And on Christmas Day, I bought myself a wool scarf which goes for any clothes because it's gray with checks.
