Speaking In Tongues

Have you heard someone speak in tongues? To those who doesn't know it, its like chanting words that really doesnt mean anything over and over again. Do you think they are doing it on purpose? It's really weird when you hear someone do it. You can't help but think if this is caused by a divine phenomenon or just a psychological thing that happens to someone in a deep trance. It hasn't happen to me yet that's why I'm curious to what may cause it. Do you believe in it?

there's no validity to speaking in tongues,the babble-talk seen in religious ceremonies has been studied in depth and there's no struture to the babbling.nor any dicernable meaning to the individual sounds or groups of sounds.in short-it's mind of insanity.a reaction to intense psycho-emotional or psycho-social stimuli.pay it no mind.

Hi ford333tw. You wrote --- there's no validity to speaking in tongues --- Really? However, the Holy Word of God says... 1Co 14:39 so that, brethren, earnestly desire to prophesy, and to speak with tongues do not forbid;

Ford... your statements are logically flawed, even if speaking in tongues, glossolalia, has no syntactic meaning, it does not follow that it indicates insanity in the speaker, nor that it is a reaction to intense psycho-emotional or psycho-social stimuli. all the best urban

Hi nocturn98. I have spoken in tongues as led by the Holy Spirit since June 1970 and, of course, I have heard hundreds of others. In regard to repetitive chanting, that is true for some, but not all or all the time. I and others have spoken without repetition. Oh yes, some are doing it on purpose. I have found in 57 years that where there is the genuine of anything, there is the fake. However, that does not negate the genuine. (ie, real Christians, just Christians in name -- real money, fake money). Many of us experience this blessing of the Holy Spirit without being in a deep trance. What causes it is a sovereign move of God by His Holy Spirit upon an individual that truly has Christ within him. From Acts 2.... 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Yes, I have. Actually a couple times. One of my close family friends spoke in tongues a couple times and my dad was able to catch it on tape. I don't think it doesn't mean anything. It's a way of communicating with God. She wasn't making it up either. She just started speaking in tongues while we prayed. It was definitely weird at first, but after I heard it a couple times, I was use to it. She was even telling us that she was starting to understand a little bit of it. It has been quite a while since I heard last of the other tongue language, so I don't really know her ability to understand at this moment. I don't think it happens to just anyone. I think it's only for certain people. Even the most religious person doesn't have the ability to do this.
