Hey friends, This evening when I returned home from work, I saw a small cat waiting for me in front of my doorstep. She is very small and looks weak, and also very frightened. I decided to feed her some biscuits, which she ate after some ogle and meows and later I fed her some rice too. Her color is nice green and white stripes and I guess she will look very beautiful when she gains a lil bit more weight. I want to keep her as my pet, but I don’t really know what Cats like to eat or their behavior. So friends do u have a cat? Do they get friendly with you like dogs? What do they like to eat the most? (Apart from mouse ) Cheers, Tutul

I see that you have already had several useful responses to your discussion. It's good that you have taken this little kitten in - good karma! You need to get proper kitten food for her. It has a higher nutritional value than the regular adult cat food and that helps the kitten to grow properly. Feed her as much of that as she will eat. Don't give her cows milk. Cats love milk, but it's not really good for them because after they are weaned, they lose most of there ability to digest it properly. In short, it's not really good for them. Don't feed her rice or any other kind of vegetable. Cats will eat such things especially if hungry and a kitten will also eat or try to anything that it can get it's jaws around regardless if it's edible or not. However, cats are what is called "obligate carnivores" which is to say they must have a meat diet and cannot survive on a vegetarian diet or even properly digest vegetables. The digestive tract of a cat is simply not designed to deal with vegetable food properly.

Hey jw, Thanks for yr suggestions. Yes i got some lovely advicees from my friends here. Good to know that people care so much for their pets. SOme have even 6 or more cats with them, which is really surprising. I get quite irritated and confused with mine small meni ( thats what i have named her ) OK I wont feed her cow milk and i ususlly feed her rice with fish. I understadn that i have to stop feeding her rice, so will give her bread and fish from today. IS bread good for her? ALso iam taking her to a vert soon and do the necessary things done. Kitten - This is Shadow.
No bread either. Fish is OK but make sure that there are no small bones or larger sharp bones that she might get stuck in her throat. I have five cats, well, four adults and a 5 month old kitten. (See photo)

Yes, cats are absolutely friendly with you like dogs. They will sleep with you, play with you, but be prepared for them to wake you up at ungodly hours (only downside lol)!! Go to the store and buy some cat food (we use Purina), a litter box, some litter, food bowl/water bowls, some toys for her. She seems like she could really use a home.

Also she is feeling cold, so i thought i wanted to give her a blanket or soemthing , lol. But the problem is she runs away from me and actually is scared. IAm keeping my fingers crossed. Cats like balls and stringy things. What do you mean by sack? C.V.S. has cat and dog beds for cheap they keep them warm and our cats love them! Do you have one by you?

awwwee! you should definitely keep her, make sure you give her a forever home. I have an orange and white boy and his name is Toby, I love him. If it's a kitten you have (under 12 months you will have to go to the store and make sure you get a cat food formulated for kittens. As a treat give her some tuna, it will shine up her coat. Best of luck together!!

Hey allie, Hmm.. thanks for the suggestions, really liked the concept of feeding her tuna fish to shine up her coat . I will definately do that but the problem at the moment is she runs away and is very scared of me. I had a dog and i remember in the very first day he was licking my toe as a sign of affection and we got so friendly. May be i have to be a lil more patient and let her feel comfortable with me. Toby is a nice name . Any ideas what i shd name her? Cheers, Tutul

it takes more time for a female cat to build trust than for a male cat, just be patient with her. :)

The best food for cats is cat food. I buy cheep food in bulk because it's what I can afford. I have 8 cats to feed. At times I have more than that. Dry kibble is fine. Of course if you can afford the expensive food, by all means buy it, but they do just fine on a cheep brand of dry food. I bought expensive food when I had only 2 cats. Canned tuna should be used only as a treat or when they are sick and won't eat other foods. Tuna has mercury in it. Animals and humans generally shouldn't eat canned tuna more than once a week. Cats make great pets. I love them. Be sure to have your cat desexed. You don't want more kittens being born. It is also best for the health of the cat and for her mental health to have it done. It might seem expensive, but it is a one time thing. She will be a better, healthier cat having it done.

Hey catlady, Thats a sweet cat in yr avatar. Mine is beautiful too but not so healthy. I looked for cat food in the super market today, but there isnt any. I guess people here pet dogs and found lots of dog food. I have to search for cat food here and yes have to buy in bulk. 8 cats is too much to take care of. U definately have lots of patience. I find myslef running out of patience when i deal with mine as i have so limited time. Hope things get better and thanks for yr wonderful suggestions. Cheers, Tutul

Apart from her fragile state she must be quite a beautiful cat .I must admit that I have never seen a green cat before.I hope though that she hasnt wandered away from a little child but apart from that I think you should keep it and cherish it .I think you could find the cat milk or buy cat food .I think there are many brands on the market but I think if you dont want to do that then you could try milk mixed with bread and sardines

Hey ronny, ye sshe is quite beautiful and also very tiny. She needs care and good food. I want to provide it to her but the problem is she is scared of me. SHe only comes to my door step at night and i have no idea where she goes during day time. I just dont want her to get hurt by the dogs or the kids, but dont have a choice. I dotn think u can tie a cat liek u do the dogs. So better let her live independently. Cheers, Tutul

How kind of you to want to take the baby in. As for food, Kitten/Cat Chow is the best for them to eat as it will help keep thier teeth clean. Most cats are somewhat friendly but usually very independant. She may not come when he is called like a dog will. Also you will want to get her to a vet as soon as possible. Young stray cats can often come down with respitory issues that can be deadly. Make sure that your new baby is healthy and give her lots of love. She will grow and make you a great pet.

Give her a card board box to sleep in with at blanket or towel in it. She will use the box to protect her from the wind and will nest in the blanket. If you keep feeding her she will soon learn that you can be trusted and will become easier to catch. Good luck with her.

cat? i have 6. cats personalities vary, but it's rare when you see a truly mean cat.it already sounds like she will be a sweet cat. get her some meat, especially fish or chicken.dry food for cats usually has a balanced enough diet for most. if she is a kitten, stay away from cow milk as some can become quite ill from it.

Well, usually cat can eat as what humans can depending on their breading or what kind of cat family they belong since there are designated cat food that they must eat but they like to drink milk as well the dogs. So, better consult a veterinarian about it.

I have both cats and dogs they get along just fine together but have raised together since they was little. I got one of my cats when it was abandoned by its mother. Its eyes wasnt even open and i had to feed it kitten formula milk with a bottle and eyedropper. He is healthy now 2 years later and is very happy in my home with the dogs i have. When he got older and eyes opened i soaked cat food in milk to feed him soft food.

Well, rice and biscuits are not exactly good things to feed a cat, but I guess a little is better than nothing. You need to go and get some cat food to feed her. I recommend buying wet food if she is skinny and underfed. She will be able to eat and digest it easier since it's already mushy. But normally when we had cats we would usually feed them dry food, and sometimes mix the wet food in with it. For a very rare occasional treat, you can give them tuna out of a can, or in the case of my mom's cat, she loves chicken. However, if you give her chicken, make sure it is grilled, not baked or fried, and make sure that it doesn't have much grease and no sauce on it. Just a tiny piece is enough, but I recommend either not doing that or doing it very very rarely, and far from the dinner table or she will take up begging for table scraps and jumping on your table. I think it's really sweet that you want to take her in, but it'll take more than food to take care of her. You'll need litter of course, and be prepared for possible vet bills, especially for an emaciated stray. At the least you should take her to get shots, and when she is bigger, probably get her fixed. We don't need a bunch of unwanted kittens roaming around, like we already have. If I were you, since you haven't seemed to have had a cat before, I'd network with cat owners and ask lots of questions. That's your best way to get information. If you know someone in person who's owned cats before, maybe have them come over and help you learn.

Hey xuara, Lovely to read your suggestions. U got plenty of knowledge about cats and i just need help from people like u. I got it that bisucits and rice are not good for her. SO i fed her some milk and now iam going to give her some fish. I didnt have time to go to a supermarket to buy cat food. MAy be i have to do that in the weekend. Also the thing which bothers me is I can only feed her during night time. She has to arrange her food during day, or i can only keep her food in the bowl for her in the morning before i go to work. I will meet a vet soon and get the required shots, lol. I hope shots here are injections, . Interesting word . I will try to find out who else owns a cat here in my locality. I doubt there is any as people prefer to pet dogs mostly. Lets C. Ty for yr suggestions. Cheers, Tutul

Well i think you should take it to the vet stright away just so it can get a check up and rabies shots and all that stuff. I think it is wonderful that you have taken a stray cat up to live with you, but remeber all animals can change, but i know that cats do grow more friendly with you(like dogs do) My friend has a cat he found of the streets with no information tags and he decided to take him in, the cat was fine the first 2 months then it satrted to sratch his owner and bite him. it was like the cat had changed and he had toget rid of him(dont worry the cat didnt get put down)

Hey joe, Now iam a lil scared, he he. SHe is so tiny and weak and at the moment she wont be able to scratch me or hurt me anyway. She is quite scared actually and i want her to get some courage and sleep in the sac bed which i made specially for her. She looks quite sweet and i want her to stay with me. I also wonder how long does a cat lives? I mean the life span of a cat? I will meet a vet soon and get his views on her. Thanks for yr suggestions. Cheers, Tutul
