Were you an ugly duckling when you were young?

I still remember the days when I was in school. Always the nerd with glasses and when puberty kicked in, I seemed to be the only boy in class with a moustache. Yep...I was the proverbial ugly duckling whom no one even noticed unless they needed help with their homework. During a recent high school reunion, I received comments on how I have changed and a few of the gals...now ladies...whom I used to crush on once upon a time ago even asked me out! It was indeed an ego boost for me. Anyone here with a similar experience? Were you an ugly duckling when you were in school? :p

I was strange when I was growing up. Straight often oily hair with no real haircut other than the one I got from my dad. I wore hand-me downs and was a total tomboy. I was the kid at the front of the class who always wanted to answer the questions. I was not at all the cool kid... how could I be... I wore pink and gold glasses with very thick lenses. But now I feel I'm cuter... although not told often. Yesterday I went on a date where the guy (who himself is extremely attractive) just looked at me for a few seconds like he was analyzing me and told me how pretty I am. I loved it. :-) I've even noticed that I take fair pictures now! YAY!!! But it's strange that I'm never told. In fact, my sister get more praise on her appearance than I do. Recently I was told that she gets the praise because people look at me and think I know I'm pretty. I think I look unique but not always pretty. But yes, I have noticed I get attention from more attractive men than I used to and with that has come more incincere agenda on their part. It's all a balancing game... you win some and you lose some. Overall, I'm glad I've figured out how to make myself not such the ugly duckling I used to be. :-)

Hi aggie, I guess I can relate to that. In fact our situations are almost similar. *erHemm....pink and gold glasses? haha... Strange you are never told as often as you should. But I guess you can tell by the way someonez lookin at you if they find you attractive or not. PS: I couldnt help checkin out your photo in your profile...kindda hard to believe that YOU were once an ugly duckling! lol

I am not since i just look average and up to now their is little changes in my face. They though i never grow old or looking mature as other people who for a long time have not seen me once they see me in my current image or in a face to face. They always say i never change much. well, i feel elated as it mean i never really look old and more younger than my actual ages is and sometimes i get annoy with the usual remarks as i may misinterpret as something i never grow old because i act and think immature which could sometimes be quite insulting. but, i always try to remain calm and cool never easily get affected by problems or rather let the problem be the one to worry..lol..

You remind me of a friend of mine. She keeps tellin me people say her face hasnt changed since she was 4. She is now 23. I never believed her till she put a pic of her when she was 4 on Facebook. I almost fell of my chair. Her face was exactly the same! It was kindda creepy...

Well, that really the truth and i just always say to them that i think i already change a lot but they would not believe as they think i never aged much and maybe attributes for being so cool as i never let problem affect me as let the problem be the one to worry..lol..

I don't think I was an ugly duckling when I was a young child, I was always very cute. However, once I hit middle school and high school, I had both glasses and braces. I was not the most popular kid by any stretch of the imagination! LOL Then, I got contacts, my braces came off, and I filled out a little more and became less shy. I think I am average looking overall.

Yes, I was. When I was in my latter elementary school days to my first or second year of highschool, I didn't really care about what I wore. I mean, as I got older, I started to care more, but it was inbetween that time that I was really tomboyish (and ugly). Not too long ago, I started watching home videos. I could really see how detrimental it was to not care about what I looked like back then. Hopefully, when I have my own high school reunion, I'll have changed for the better =]

Oh my gosh. You reminded me! When I look back at some old photos, I couldnt believe that I used to wear clothes like that! and I THOUGHT I LOOKED COOL! Haha...yes, back then we just did what we liked and didnt really care what others thought....that rebellious stage...but I should have paid more attention on the clothes I used to wear though...lol

Oh yeah d_e_v81. Except for the mustache, same scenario. Back then the tv show Batman came out and my friends poked fun at me saying that I had Batman glasses. Sports was the thing in my school. My sport? Chess! One of my friends said, wow some sport. What might happen? You gonna fall out of the chair or something. I really hated myself, and for other "reasons," wanted to kill myself just over 40 years ago to this day. That all changed when I committed my life to Christ. Now I am accepted in the Beloved!

Small correction. The girl did not even bother me. At least they asked you for help with their homework.

Ahh...the Chess Club! haha...I was never much good at it though. In fact I doubt if I was any good at any other sports I tried. I know I was good at the Air Rifle Range. I could hit any target from any distance. It kindda helped me when I went into the army and earned my marksman from both usin the M16s as well as the current SAR21 weapons. Glad you have found your place in your religion. Have a happy new year.

i don't think i was an ugly duckling until i went to the university. at hte beginning of my school life, from the kindergarten to the high school, i was a good girl. every classmate and teacher liked me. but when i went to the university, i became so common or even an ugly duckling. nobady noticed me. i was sad at that time. but now i am confident with myself. i no longer consider i am an ugly duckling . i believe you have the same feeling, right?

Not really...I was pretty mch an ugly dusckling right until I finished my studies. My mum didnt want me to take my moustache off so I kept that. I never tried gel or contacts till I was like 20 I guess. But once the moustache and glasses came off and I introduced my hair to gel...hmm...what can I say...I used to play scenes in front of the mirror pretending Im Clark Kent becomin Superman....haha!!!

No, I was never an ungly duckling when I was young. But there are times that I was a bit chubby. They say that I have a pretty face but too shy to flaunt it.

yes, I guess I was one back in high school. I wore glasses and had pimples on my face. But it was just the part of life that most people have to go through in some point.
