Matt Smith preview

Well David Tennant has stepped down, and the first preview of Matt Smith's Doctor Who is up. It's a minute full of lots of action really. It almost looks like the new Doctor will be more swashbuckling again. He tosses at least one punch and seems to be physical with a Dalek. There is the random snogging of the companion sadly, which I hope from his facial reaction isn't a mutual attraction and the kiss happens for some odd reason. No more Doctor/companion love stories please. The cool bits: Matt Smith's outfit doesn't look so bad in action. The Blink angels are back. The Doctor attacks a Dalek. And there are vampires too it seems. Spring will be lots of fun! What did you think of the Matt Smith preview?

After seeing the preview, I have to say I am looking forward to the new series. I too seen a Dalek and the Blink creatures. But did I see the Doctor waring a Dickie Bow I could be wrong but I hope that is not his new look. I will miss Tennant as the Doctor, so Matt better be extra good.

Your eyes did not deceive you, that is what he was wearing and it is his outfit. It was first revealed a few months ago, I thought it looked like crap when I first saw it too. But once I saw him move around in it a bit in the preview I thought it looked alright and seemed to suit him.

Cheers, so it was a Dickie Bow I seen. I have been avoiding the spoilers for a while as I was looking forward to the Christmas specials. I guess I will have to get used to Matt with the Dickie lol

I avoided spoilers, but couldn't resist looking at the photos since they were spoiler free beyond showing what he looked like.

I only saw the transformation scene and felt it was a bit "wrong" given what the doctor had been through. I can't help feeling that an older, more world weary type would have suited the role better. From what you say, it looks like the new series will be more soap opera than space opera. "Trust me - I'm a Doctor" - where from, Holby City? I was a David Tennant fan. Plus, I'm at that louche old age where any Time Lord younger than 35 is practically embryonic. Still, we'll see - just so long as they don't bring the Adipose back. That was just so ... so ... WRONG.

The early doctors were older. It was in the '70's that the first younger doctor (played by Tom Brown) came on the scene. It seemded like form then o the doctors gradually became even younger. I'm not sure how much the audience would identify with an old doctor at this point.

I was hoping for a darker older Doctor rather than someone so young Don't mention the Adipose, don't even blink or you might miss them

Originally when he took over show running, Moffat said he wanted an older Doctor too. Everyone who was in the running on all the sites (including gambling) were older men. But something changed his mind when it came to Matt Smith, and well I do trust Moffat. Every episode he has written for Dr Who has been fantastic, and every show he has created and ran thus far that I've seen has been quite good. I don't think it will be that soap operaish, at least not more then it already is, I just hope we lose some of the fantasy elements of Davies run where prophecies rule everything and you can clap your hands and magically the Doctor is all better and can defeat the Master. I do agree him being so young is odd. I'm only 27, I should not be older then the Doctor!

I wasn't sure how much I liked David Tennant when he first took over the role. Also, emotionally, I thought he was much more over the top than the earkier doctors. All that said, I've grown to like him and will miss him.

I dont think so either! I swear I dont! Lord knows I hope that I am wrong! BUT I REALLY LIKED David Tennant.... He and I share the same birthday... Does that mean that we have a bond? LOL He is coming to the US... he is starring in a pilot. I hope that we like him. I think that he is soooooo cool!

But that's pretty much the sentiment everyone has when there is a switch to the Doctor. It's one of the big reasons they announce the change. That way people can prepare for the switch. When I watched reruns, the regenerations weren't that hard on me, I already knew who were considered the better Doctors and what to expect. While Eccelston's regeneration was hard for me since it was happening as I watched it, no one knew what Tennant was going to do, and I didn't like him at first. Now, I don't want to see the man go and look down on Matt Smith a bit, because he's the new guy. But I think Smith will do well enough. He isn't Tennant, but Tennant wasn't Eccelston, and so on down the line. As long as the Doctor is made into something that can be Matt Smith's and the episodes are good, I will be happy. Tennant was a great Doctor, but a lot of his scripts were rubbish.

What I think of Matt Smith? Well he has large shoes to fill because David was spectacular. I'm giving him 3 episodes to make me like his Doctor.

Why only 3 episodes? If I did that for Tennant I wouldn't of watched much more. Looking back I enjoy his first Christmas special, but at the time I didn't. And the werewolf story was meh, and I can't recall was the third episode of his was. It wasn't until I got accustomed to him being the Doctor that I really enjoyed it. I figure Matt Smith will be similar, maybe even more so, as while Eccelston was my first Doctor as it happened, Tennant has been around longer and I enjoy him as the Doctor more.
