Do you go to the theater or rent your movies?

I rent my movies. I can count on one hand the times I have gone to the movie theater. I am just not rich enough for that. Not at this point. So I get them from the video store. And usually after they hit the $1 section. I am a cheapskate when it comes to that sort of thing. What about you? How often do you get to go to see the movies in the theater? Do you prefer to watch them there or at home?

I really like going to see movies in the theater, and I would go out and watch movies more often if I had more money. Right now I only go see movies if I really want to go see one or if I have to review one for school. I like renting too, especially now that you can rent movies for $1 a day. It's great.

I am not sure that I would go to the theater more if I had the money to go. I kind of like being able to wear what I want or nothing at all while watching something in the peace and quiet of my own home. There is nothing better than being able to stretch out and put my feet up with snacks from my kitchen. WAY better than having someone excusing themselves every 10 minutes to go get their overpriced goodies or go to the bathroom. Speaking of... isn't it nice to be able to pause the movie?

Yes, it is nice. But I still like going to the theaters. I like watching movies on the big screen and I like not having to wait for the DVD. I don't care much about people getting up and walking around. If it's a good movie, I probably won't notice. It's a great social event too. You can go out with friends and have fun shopping afterwards or whatever.

Oh I am not saying that I am above going to the theater. Sometimes the experience is much better there. I watched Jurassic Park when it came out to theater and because of that, it impressed me more than it would have at home I think. And I watched Batman Begins, which sparked a whole new interest in the Batman movie series. Pretty cool.

I do really enjoy going to the cinema to watch a movie but tend to watch at home more often than not. I used to spend lots of money renting films from the video store. I watch movies online now on a variety of different websites which saves me lots of money thankfully.

This is very true. Then again, maybe England has different laws than the US does on that sort of thing. Here its a federal offense.

I don't honestly see that I am doing anything wrong though some may see things differently. Sure England has laws. As far as I am aware the law breaking sits with those who upload the films to such sites and those who download the films. I am not uploading anything and never download anything. I merely watch films online for my own personal entertainment. I don't make copies or earn anything from it so I hardly see my actions as being of any great seriousness. Considering all the law breaking that occurs in the world the watching of movies online seems insignificant. Having read your comments I wonder why you take the moral high ground in response to my comments when on a previous one you admit to watching some movies online yourself (though not pirating)...and to someone who admits to downloading, which I believe is illegal. Interesting reading.

I can’t remember the last time I went to the theatre, or cinema as it’s known here in the UK, which is quite strange seeing that I am seriously passionate about movies. Part of the reason is that due to health I can’t sit through a movie in the theatre but also because I like to watch them in peace and quiet without other people talking or eating distracting me from the movie. So I tend to raid the bargain buckets for cheap DVDs which explains why I have so many of them, lol.

I am right there with you about the noise of the theater. It drives me crazy too. Although for me it is someone that has a loud obnoxious laugh. Total turn off.

I used to love the theater when I was younger. Then I began to rent so I could watch more movies. Today I get the latest movies off the internet so I don't get behind...AND it is free. The OVGUIDE is the greatest site ever for this.

Maybe there will be a sequel. There are a lot of movies that are left unfinished so that they can make a 2nd part.

I like to do it if I'm not pirating. I do not endorse that.

Yes, there are a lot of sites to pirate copies of current movies. That's why I don't download them much. Mostly I watch them on my laptop. Just finished seeing "The Road". Not bad but it felt unfinished.

Depends on how badly I want to see the movie. If I wait say 6 months or so it'll probably come out on DVD and I'll just go rent it.Most of the time I just go rent the movie when it comes out on DVD,less effort than going to the cinemas and way cheaper in the long run.

Most of my problem is also that I don't like to spend money on a movie that looks good in the commercial but then is actually not good.

As when the movie releases I see the review of the movie and if it is good then I go to theater to watch as I want to make my money count and the experience we get in theaters,we don't get it in home.If the review is not that good then I go to torrent and then download the movie and watch it at home.

I find that the opposite is true though for me. I can get a theater experience. With surround sound and all these new home theater systems, I find it a better deal. But opinions vary.

I was never able to go when I was younger. Our family was pretty poor for that. Rich in other ways I guess though. Now I find that I prefer to be at home because theaters are just so noisy and crowded with sticky floors and too expensive concessions. There is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa or bed with my fiance and watching a movie together.
