There are some books I plan to get, but there are others that I will pick up off the shelves without having planned to read them. I won't pick up books at random. I read the back summary and determine whether or not I'd want to read that kind of story. Then I'll be browsing and I'll find a book by an author that my friends like or that I've heard a lot about and I'll pick that up too. I rarely ... |
 | allyoftherain responded to a discussion called Libraries in my area: goofy hours. Yours too? in reading. 1 day ago
Well reading a good book is my idea of a fun weekend, so Friday seems like a great day to go to the library. But then again, I'm weird, and not at all like most college students.
My district has multiple libraries that all take the same library card, but they don't have the same hours, which always struck me as weird. I think the main library that I visit is closed on Sundays, and stays open f... |
 | allyoftherain responded to a discussion called What's your favorite book and your favorite author? in books. 1 day ago
You know, I honestly don't know if I can pick a favorite author. I used to say Frank Peretti was my favorite author and that his book "This Present Darkness" was my favorite, but that was in middle school when I was really into reading supernatural thrillers. Now I'm more into high fantasy, and there are loads of books and authors in that genre that I like but none I actually feel like claiming... |
 | allyoftherain responded to a discussion called How many of you like reading old classics? in books. 1 day ago
To be honest, I've really hated a lot of classics I've been forced to read. We're forced to read a ton of classics in school. The only two that I actually remember liking were "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Pride and Prejudice". I've read a few other classics outside of school like "The Secret Garden", "The Chronicles of Narnia", and "The Lord of the Rings" and liked them, but none of my English ... |

I take the train. lol. Then I walk from the station to school. It's not too far, and getting a bike for it would be a bit of a waste. I'd like to be able to get a car for next year because I might have to take some heavy camera/lightning equipment off-campus and I wouldn't be able to carry it. |

Merry Christmas! Wow... is it night where you are? Because it's still morning here. None of our family's Christmas celebrations really start until this evening, so it's not too lame for me to be online on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning, however, I will not be here.:D |

"Lord of the Rings" isn't children's literature ("The Hobbit" is, but "Lord of the Rings" is not.), and I had a teacher who outright told me that it didn't have any literary merit. I know about the epic fantasies like "Beowulf" and "The Odyssey", but those are much older than most of the things we were forced to read. We never covered "Beowulf" in school and we only went over parts of "The Ody... |
