RFID for your car

LTO is now asking payments for RFID upon registration of your car. As stated by Ted CasiƱo, LTO is asking P520 for the 10-year validity of the sticker but will still take effect yet in October 2010. WHAT? What is worse is that LTO has not yet installed readers of the RFID. If all car owners will pay for the RFID, LTO will earn as much as 6B pesos.

That is really something disgusting paying for services that you would used in the future yet you already paid for it. I know there is a pending court order asking them to put TRO on this payment until after the implementation of its release. Lucky me I don't have a car yet to deal with this kind of additional expense.

I think its not 6B, as what is said in the news early this evening its 1.2 billion pesos. Anyways either of the two, still RFID is not accepatble and should not be implemented because it didnt undergone public bidding. Why would LTO collect that big money instantly when RFID is valid for ten years? What assurance that the chips to be installed were not defective and will not be defective in ten years time? I think the money that would be collected will be use for this coming Election for election campaign by some corrupt government officials.

Its being stupid you know. They are asking for a payment that covers a ten year period. Why can't they ask for just the annual fee instead. And to think that the stickers they'll be using won't even last for ten years. They are forcing people to pay for the things that could be categorized as illegal. There is no public bidding on that project. That project covers the entire nation. Any government project must undergo a bidding. This is just another urgent income generating scheme for the government. Billions of pesos will be robbed from people who just want a comfortable and convenient way of life. Politicos would probably say poor people are not affected by this RFID so go ahead. But all will be affected by this.
