There are several people out there who have lived through such castophy but the question is for those of you who have been blessed by a pretty secure enviroment do you know what to do? I remember the last earthquake i was in wasn't very big just a slight tumbler but my entire family raced outside. leaving me indoors. which is exactly what you are suppose to do. if you are inside and an earthquake hits don't run outside. there are several reasons for this 1 you may not be prepared for what might come tumbling down. most acciedents happen when people try to get outside and are struck in the head. 2 get under something stable. it doesn't matter if it is a table, bed or door frame if something comes down it will hit that first before it strikes you. now earthquakes are one thing but can result in a tsnami. it is important not to panic while gathering your family and driving to higher ground as soon as possible. it amazes me that all that i have stated is common sense but when the earthquake strikes it seems as if fear takes over and the fight or flight kicks in. the best thing to do is to stay calm. As for tornadoes. I have been in one and lets just say there is nothing more terrifing than one that hits at night. Get to the center of your house. if there is time try to get pillows around you incase of broken glass or debre flying in. The best spot is of course the bathroom if you don't have a storm cellar. just a bit of tips and tricks for those who loose their common sense in the event of an emergency.

Knowing what kind of disaster is likely to happen in your area, of coursse many disaster happen at unexpected times, but there are trends for different disasters at different areas. Have emergency supplies at hand could save your life one day, always prepared for the worst. If you house is likely to flood then don't keep important document or supplies in the basement. If earthquake is common then have hard hats in the room you are staying could be a helper. The most important thing is not to panic in the event of disater, a calm mind can make life-saving decisions at the most critical moments. So stay cool and it could save your life one day.

Hi pukaprat2 . Yes, depending upon what it is, I know what to do. In the 1980s I was trained as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Cardiac Rescue Technician and for basic fire fighting. A big key is to know as much as you can, and then remain calm so you wisely do what you know. If a tornado would threaten our house though, I think I might head for our closet that is under the steps that go upstairs. Our bathroom is too close to the outer wall. Btw, I know how to try to stop bleeding and a good few other things.
