I watched this movie over and over and i keep on crying whenever i watched and read the book especially the part that mandy told that she is sick. I tried the book once and i felt the same although there are differences on both sides. It is actually a great movie and a nice book written by nicholas parks. Try it..

i haven't read its book yet but i'd rather prefer the movie. even though you'll watch it for several times, you end up bursting into tears. this is a very beautiful and inspiring movie..=')

I preferred the movie overall, as it made more light of the effect that Jamie and having faith in himself had in Landon's life. I think that the book had too much unnecessary detail. The book was set also in a different time period, which greatly affected how people acted and reacted to certain situations.
