Mobile phones are an annoyance in public places. People tend to talk far too loudly when using them and without regard for their own or other people's peace and privacy. They are distracting to the user, too. A person talking on a mobile phone is much less aware of his/her surroundings and this can (and does) lead to accidents. It has almost become a 'de facto' that, if you have a mobile phone, you are obliged to allow yourself to be contacted day or night by anyone who has your number.
