Bareback or saddle?

Do you prefer riding bareback or with saddle? When I was younger, I rode a lot bareback. Then I had a very nervous horse that would jump out into the ditch because of a butterfly, so I always used a saddle. Not only was he skittish, he was also quite tall (170 cm) so I didn't want to fall of. The horse I have now isn't skittish at all but when you trot it feels like you're being shaken, so therefor I always use a saddle. I want my stirrups! Plus, as I get older I get more afraid of falling off :-/

I like to ride either way. I wont ride my gelding bareback, as he is only 3 and he gets skiddish sometimes, and he isnt gaited. I ride my mare bareback sometimes, shes more relaxed and is gaited so shes a smooth ride. If Im brushing her and feel like taking a ride to the pond or around the field I just hold onto her mane and hop up and take off with only her halter and some reins. She was an attitude about her saddle anyway. She breathes out and then the saddle wont get tight enough so I have to wait for her to take a breath in to tighten it up.

So you have one of those too! My horse (gelding, old and grumpy) was a riding school horse for several years before I bought him so he knows all the tricks to drag out the time before you can start. He'll breathe in and he'll also somehow widen his mouth so you have to tighten both the saddle and the bridle. Then he'll do his best to run off once you put your foot in the stirrup, normally I'm around the corner before I can find the other stirrup :-)

I prefer Bareback . However, riding Indian horses bareback includes a lot of pain . :( Hope you all get the point. We had this Arabic horse at our farms long back , which actually was gianted and had a smooth back . Well trained and from one of the best breed , it never need any reins as well . It was fun then when she used to run through the shallow river waters... miss those days .
