Have you met your great-grandparents?

When I was a child I had a friend who had a very young mother. My friend still had all of her grandparents, all of her great-grandparents and two great-great-grandmothers and one great-great-grandfather. I think she was very lucky to be able to meet all of her grandparents, her great-grandparents and even a couple of her great-great-grandparents. Of course she wasn't close to all of them, but I still think that it must have been amazing to meet her entire family. I have met my great-grandparents on my mother's side. I was 8 when my great-grandmother died, and my great-grandfather died about 20 years later when he was 96. My great-grandparents on my father's side died before I was born, but I have seen pictures of them. My father has also told me about them. Have you had the chance to meet your great-grandparents? Or have you seen pictures of them? Have your family told you about them?

no. they were no longer around when i was born. i was fortunate enough to have met my maternal grandma and paternal grandpa, but that's all. i had memorable childhood with both of them but they both passed away just before my teens. both sets of great grandparents passed away right before and during the war. and my maternal grandpa, when mom was 16. while my paternal grandma, the year before i was born. my grandpa once showed me a picture of his dad back in the service before the war. and he told me a few stories of life back then. my parents sometimes tell us stories too, but they were also very young when they have lost their grandparents so not much to tell. it would have been amazing to have met them. i wish my mom would be able to see her great grandchildren too. in our travel last year to hongkong, i brought my mom, my nephew and nieces, my brother, and one of my sisters-in-law... and at one point i was amazed at how we looked... 7 people from 3 generations traipsing around the streets of a foreign land for a week. it was a great memory to share with the kids and with my mom. we hope to do it again in a few months, either in vietnam or in japan.

Your trip sounds like a nice idea. It is great when people from different generations are able to travel together and explore a new country together. My husband's family has talked about doing the same thing. My mother-in-law, my brother in-law, his girlfriend, his sons, my sister-in-law, my husband and I would like to go to Greece together on day.

I have seen pictures of my great grand parents but have only had the chance to spend time with one of them. It was my grandmother's mother. I remember going to her house as a child and playing with all of here knick knacks. She actually made sure that I have my favorite one just before she passed. We went on vacation to Florida with her once when I was little too. We went there every year because my grandmother's brothers had moved there and had families. My great grandmother rode in the back wit me the whole trip.

Hi Porcospino I have seen my grand mother i.e. my mother's mother and her mother i.e. my grand mother's mother but I have not seen my grand father (mother's father)and my father's parents as they expired before my birth. It is really very exciting if you can see all your grand parents but I could not see all of them. My father told about his parents and showed their photographs. Have a nice day.

Hello Porcospino, I am really surprised for your friend. Your friend is really really lucky to have seen his big upline of family members. On my side well, I have seen my father's and mother's father and mother. My father's father past away a few years back and my mother's father a long time back. My mom says that her grandmother was the one gave me bath always when I was a crawling baby but then she past away before I could start recognizing people so I don't remember her. Well thats all I have to say on my side... I just know the names of my great grandfathers and grandmothers though... just due to curiosity I troubled my parents and came to know about it :)

I only got to meet one. My great-grandmother on my father's side. Though I don't remember her much as I only saw her a few times when I was little. I do remember wondering who she was at a birthday party once. LOL I think the last time I her was when I was about 5 or 6 years old and she passed away a couple of years later. She did live until she was 94 years old, so she had a pretty long life, considering none of my grandparents lived anywhere near as long as that. Happy mylotting!

I was lucky enough to meet my grandma on my mother's side's grandparents. I got to spend nine years of my life with my great-grandfather and sixteen years of my life with my great-grandmother. It was neat to have a relationship with these people. I think what made them the most interesting is that they had lived through so much of the history of this country. My great-grandfather was the last living WWI veteran of the little city where he lived. My daughter, was slightly more blessed. She's been able to meet two of her great-grandmother's and two of her great-grandfathers.

I wish i could--wish i did meet them. They were long gone even before i was born. I met two of my grandmothers on both sides but never my grandfathers. I was told that my grandfather in my mother side, used to carry me during my first few months on earth when he was still alive. They came from a very poor family and also in a far flung areas so basically having a picture is almost next to impossible. Currently, my grandmother in my father side is the only one alive. My great grandparents were never been seen, heard or felt, LOL...Scary...
