i have never been in a costco so i have no idea how they are comparable to a sams club but im thinking i might try a membership when i get some extra money but dont know which is the better deal.. basic membership on costco is $10 more than sams club but ive only been in a sams club so im hesitant to pay more for something im not sure of. are they both about the same? is one have better selections or prices than the other? is renewal the same amount as joining? any tips for me? im really trying to save money any way i can this year so im scared to invest and then get screwed! but costco does offer money back on membership if im not happy..

They're all basically the same, moon. I've been in both (I used a one-day guest pass) and I noticed that the prices were pretty much the same. Quite honestly, I didn't see any "terrific" bargains. With a lot of the products both places sold, they were almost the same price as what WalMart sells them for. I always calculate what one item would cost individually when they come in those huge multi-packs. Some prices are better, but not much. They just didn't justify me paying the price of a membership. Maybe that's because the things I buy normally aren't a great bargain at these wholesale clubs while things I don't buy are. I did have a membership at another wholesale club (BJ's) and ended up not saving enough money to justify the membership price. So, I didn't renew.

That's the best way to go, moon. That way, you can see for yourself if it's worth the membership price. I MAY do that myself. I'll definitely be buying a freezer this year because I'm planning a HUGE veggie garden this year. This tax situation we talked about has made me more determined than ever to pay as little as possible in tax to the government so I'll be growing all my own veggies and canning and freezing them to last throughout the year. I'll be freezing the fresh berries and some vegetables so I'll definitely need a bigger freezer than what came with the fridge. Of course, a lot of what I grow will be canned, like stewed tomatoes, vegetable soup, pumpkin pie filling, stuff like that. If I have a good harvest, I'd love to send you some! Just let me know what your favorite veggies are.

I am not a member of either one..we don't really have one close and have to drive quite a distance to visit one...but I have heard recently that they are closing a bunch of Sam's clubs! Since Walmart was taken over there have been alot of changes and this might be something to check out before you do a membership.
