Have you ever been fired from your job?

I recently got fired from my job. It was the first time that ever happened and it's very depressing to me. They said I got too overwhelmed and couldn't keep up. I was working at a restarant as a server. How do I build up my confidence to go out and look for another job when I feel so incompetent now?

Well, I have never been fired from my job before, but I was involved in a retrenchment before. It was my first job, and the company didn't confirm me as the permanent staff after 9 months working there. The company didn't confirm more than 200 staffs at that period, some have been working there for more than a year. Although we have been checking with our manager, the manager promised us that they will not retrench us. But, batches by batches of the staffs have been retrenched and asked to leave the company, as they are all unconfirmed staffs, hence the company did not need to pay any compensation. It's really unfair to us, but I went to the Labor Office and checked it out, and the officers told us the company has the right to not confirm a staff even after 10 years working there. Without any promise in paper, the company can just retrench the staffs. The reason the company retrenched us is because the economy was not good, and the company was not doing well, hence the company can use this reason to ask us to leave. I was not really sad at the moment, and didn't lose my confidence, as I have done nothing wrong, and I was actually about to quit the job. Do not let this affect your confidence, just go ahead and not to look back. Look for a job that you like to do. It's life and there are always up and down, just don't let the down wave beat you! Good luck!

You know what? Maybe this job wasn't a good match for you. You should look at it as a sign that you need to find a job that works at a different pace or has a different focus. I wouldn't be a very good server. I just wouldn't be fast enough. But I am very good at what I do and I like it (I teach). I've also been good as a cashier - maybe you could try that?
