Unfair change in benefits: as in, we get NONE now.

After a shocking change in policy at the dry cleaners where I spend 30 hours of my life every week.. I found out this week that starting this upcoming Monday, us part-timers will no longer get the ONE benefit that we were allotted before: 2 free pieces of dry cleaning per day that we work. Now we get absolutely NOTHING except a measly 20% off discount off dry cleaning prices (which, ironically enough, are about 30% MORE expensive than our competitors). So along with no one getting any raises in 2009 and 2010 (because of the "economy"), we will also not be able to get ANY of our dry cleaning done - even the dress pants and shirts we have to wear to WORK! Probably the worst part of this whole deal was the stupid letter they put with our paychecks and W2's. They mention that, in order to not cut back "other benefits", they have to cut this one. But excuse me? As a part-timer who works 30 hours a week - Monday through Saturday - I get NO benefits. NO 401K, NO vacation, NO holiday pay - NOTHING! I have no reason to work at this place. I am beyond angry right now! I was seriously thinking of up-and-quitting. While I love the store I work at, and my store manager - I absolutely HATE the owner of this company (who is ridiculously wealthy - owns a bunch of different Range Rovers & Audis) and I HATE their stupid new policy. I am ranting. Sorry. But grrrrr!! Do you have anything likewise to share? Frustration in cutting back benefits of YOUR job? Doesn't this just make you just throw down what you're doing and flat out QUIT?! Ugh, I'm going crazy here.

This is the sort of thing that started the Trades Unions. Do you have to wear a uniform for work? If so, unpleasant though it might seem, maybe you should go without laundering them for a week or so. Say that you can't afford to clean them. It's the "economy". That'll hit them where it really hurts as customers complain.

That's actually an amazing idea! I might have to try that - coming to work with my wrinkly dress pants and dingy looking uniform polo. lol! Fab idea, thank you!!

Yea...I love it when they pull stuff like that. At my company we used to get a Christmas bonus. Supposedly we're still eligible for it. However since whether or not we get it is based on whether or not we can reach the forecast our corporate office ( who has no concept of reality ) has set we won't. They're still running on pre economic crash numbers & estimations we're not going to get. It's impossible. Insurance just went up $40-$60 a week & our hours are sketchy at best. If the economy wasn't so bad I'd have left that B.S. long ago.
