I am so disgusted my discussion and mylotters comment had been copied!!

Philippines
January 27, 2010 7:06am CST
I am browsing at a search engine and I type my username without mylot and so I just found out I had 7,560 entries alone in my user name. So I scan through the pages and there"Bingo" I had just found one of my discussion had been copied words per words. I had not yet check the other pages along if my other discussion had been copied too ans so far this discussion of mine are the first whom i ever notice. And what's so funny about it? Even, the first comments of member who first reply on my discussion had been copied. I just like to warn everyone that your discussion is no longer safe for plagiarism anymore and those who try to befriend you whoever they are who never response to any of your discussion, I suspect are the one who copied. So try to check your discussion using plagiarism checker and you could find it for yourself if any of your discussion had been copied. The funny thing about it the plagiarizer did not even delete the greeting of the first commenter using my user name. So here the link for all of you to see; I would like to know if anyone have ever experience this, Have any of your discussion/articles had been copied and so what your first reaction? Kindly shares your thoughts. thanks 1-28-10 This is the link in my lot discussion: :http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2227391.aspx?p=1 and the plagiarized copy: :http://my.chinese.cn/en/space-blog-uid-75-id-7348.html

This is a very terrible notion. It is downright unfair for those who have wrote their thoughts and all they ended up is that their written work being copied or even taking written matters as their own without reference to it whatsoever. This can be very irritating.

hi yugasini, Yeah, they are different from my topic since it is all about a person who post my discussion as part of his blog entry in a website other than my lot. it is a case of direct plagiarism which very evident and it comes even as a surprises to me since i have no knowledge that my discussion is publish in other sites left alone even a link is not even provided with no permission of mine.

I am sorry that has happened to you. I have never checked that myself so I do not know if I have been plagiarized. I am glad it is not a fellow MyLot user that has done this, though. We have had that happen here. So what will you do about this?

hi gardengerty, it just comes as a surprises to me since i never had any discussion of mine repetitively publish by me. I just discover it accidentally when i surf my username the title of my discussion comes out and there i see my discussion had been copied generally including the first commenter. A member tell me to contact my lot and tell something about it as they have their own copyright guidelines when it comes to plagiarism.

Yes, it has happened to me. Another mylotter alerted me to the fact that my discussion had been copied word for word. I reported that mylotter, and the Mylot admin. deleted their discussion. I've also seen this happen to another mylotter. In that case I alerted her to the fact that her discussion had been copied. It was so obviously copied. It wasn't just a plain 'ol discussion, someone would definitely have to be copying that mylotter to come up with the discussion they did.

hi ambiepam, Yeah, it is the right things to do and so far i had not caught any member here who copy my discussion word per word but in other websites i found my discussion being copied. So this discussion of mine is to keep the member aware of the copyright as their discussion without their knowledge may have duplicate in other sites without their permission which very upsetting. I had seen too a lot of discussion here and including the reply from other respondents who copy their responses even with link in other websites in a long paragraph. Thus, depriving those member who honestly reply in their own wording and they take it easy to copy and have laugh all the way taking advantage of other member ideas without having to make their own discussion quality and originality.

Hi neelianoscet, I have not had this happen to me or at least I don't think I have. I'd be so furious. Is there any way you can tell who did this? Are they posting your discussions here or somewhere else? I wouldn't know how to find out if someone is doing this. How do you find a plagiarism checker?

hi sid, I never check it with plagiarism checker as i discover that my discussion had been copied when I search my user name on the first page the entry title of my discussion exist and the name of the website where my discussion is published. Even if one had not check with plagiarism checker, just simply copying a paragraph from your discussion in the search bar it could eventually appear the names of any site who have the similar entries as yours.

Wow, that is just so wrong and incredibly lazy! The fact that they just left your user name in the comment as well indicates that they were too lazy to even modify it at all or just too stupid to realise to do it! I hope this person can be found out and banned from here!

I guess we can search all of our discussions and find it somewhere a copy. Some people are really stupid to copy internet content. Mylot has copyright, so maybe you can send a message to admin?

my 4 years old discussion was copied word by word, including my original typo mistake: my discussion: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/261537.aspx discussion posted January 14 2010 http://alltopmovies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10065 this come up after I checked it on http://www.plagiarismchecker.com/

Hi polachicago, yeah, you see and check it by yourself that everyone here had been a victim too it is just a matter of time before they could discover it unless they dug their older discussion. I am so glad that you also discover one of your past discussion had been copied too and the next things to do is to inform the admin of the site whom your discussion had been plagiarized. The plagiarism checker is really reliable. Have a nice day!

hi polachicago, yeah, that is the better way to do and one would know if ever their discussion before had been copied as some are just out to take advantage of other effort on their own pleasure. And it is so funny they copied all those texts not even reverse some wording which is very evident on their foolishness could not even have the guts to make a cover up. I don't try it yet to report and maybe after my discussion had been finished it is then i would ask for the further procedures if i am gonna report it or i would directly inform the website itself whom the copy of my discussion is published.

yeah, not even from those country all who have committed direct plagiarism since they only lower the quality of the poster discussion making it sometimes as their own original while depriving the original poster of its recognition. it really hard to comes out with topic since it is created from own wording and it is so sad that things like this happen and i think some members should also need to check their discussion it may even been highly circulated already in the internet.

I am a member of another social networking site, and I have seen a lot of discussions here copied there. I'm not really sure if it's the same user or not, but it's definitely the same discussion word for word. I tried searching my name, and there were nothing but mylot, though I would maybe try again a little later. It's just really a shame that plagiarism is all over the net, and it's hard to keep your discussions and articles as your own.

hi ingkingderders, It is a non-english site website and so far i also encounter discussion of member here where they also found their discussion being plagiarized and so the ultimate solution is for them to contact the admin of the said site where copy of their discussion is publish since the admin of my lot is only concern with plagiarism that happen here and they are no longer responsible for contents copy by other sites from here as the maker of the discussion is the one who need to do the follow up. You could search your discussion by just adding like ingkigderder in mylot and all of your discussion here would comes out or if you suspect your discussion is being copied you coould check a portion by visiting the, www.plagiarismchecker.com, there you could find if any of your discussion have been copy.:)

In fact just last night i submit my discussion about eating and when i am about to reply in my three discussion, one of my discussion say it no longer exist or have been removed due to guidelines violation, then I receive a notification from my lot that i plagiarized, which is very funny as How could I plagiarized my own discussion then i just found out that my discussion the very same day it is publish in another blog, see here the link from my lot discussion which the admin just put back since it is the original and not the copied one for comparison here is my discussion http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2256229.aspx, and the plagiarized copy of my discussion,http://tambokekoy.blogspot.com/, you could notice they copied my discussion word per word including the comma and period.

ahhh. I would definitely check out the site later. In the other site that I am a member of, the admin checks if your blog is an original or not. And you could always tell the admin to take it down if the discussion was originally yours. They don't tolerate plagiarism but I guess it's just too much for them to keep track of all the posts.

yeah, that the right attitude since we have no control over the power of internet is so magnificent and were just a part of small sectors. This discussion of mine just serves as a reminder to be careful of the content of one discussion and be wary that somehow out there is lurking to take advantage of one work. I deeply remember it and you itself check the link and many would have their earning reduce when those types of discussion is deleted which have happen many times as some have not yet know who he is and some even have their good impression on him.

well yeah, originality is really a problem now because one's idea maybe taken from someone else or from any source like books, newspapers, etc...but this case isn't...it's totally plagiarism! because it was copied word per word and why your name? waaaahahaha! didn't he/she realize that that is a name... go check my friend, maybe your name is another new English word in the dictionary that's why he didn't even dare to omit it... PS. i'll be back here tomorrow neel, i'll be out for now to Manila

Yes my friend! Your complain is 100% correct. I think there should be rules in this concern to prevent this practice. Because, we the myLotters spend our valuable times in writing these discussions, responses and comments. If our valued discussions, responses and comments can easily be copied to other sites, what kind of honour and value myLot render to us? I urge all the myLotter members to raise their voices so that the myLot authorities may take steps to evaluate our privacy. I hope all my friends will agree with me.

hi faridmadeabillion, Yeah, and I do hope the other mylotter would be aware of this situation since i just discover I am not the only whose discussion are being copied. So their is still flaw when it come to the copyright matters of the discussion being made by member cause anyone could just copy and paste those recent and even older discussion to be claim by other people as their own. You know too that it is take longer time to think and some even devoted longer time till wee hours with too much sleepless nights and even some have neglect their health so it is necessary that their should be some protection provide by the site to its valuable contributor as way to protect their copyright to their work. have a nice day!

I think their is a software or programming which could prevent plagiarism since i already saw many websites even if you highlight the paragraph which you like to copy you could not paste it and something like it is copy protected which is protected by copyright. I hope the mylot admin would also do the same things just like other blog owner had done to protect their work against the threat of plagiarism.

Aren,t there suppose to be like firewalls or whatever you call them on our site, to protect all of us from something like this happening? plagiarism is a continuing and pervasive disease that has grown into pandemic proportions in the writing kingdom... this is more apparent and easier to perpetrate now with the "cut-and-paste" technology that evolved with computers... there copyright laws and patent laws... but the tribe of plagiarists increase by leaps and bounds... anyway, as there's not much we can do, in terms of regulation, it's up to them... NOW!... soon, i believe, there will be a way for technology to catch up on them... then, this plague, perpetrated by intellectual parasites, will be cured... hopefully, neelianoscet, in the nearest future....

hi bystander, yeah, your right and because this site should disallowed copy and paste capability to non member to access like those program or software which I have seen in other websites where even if you highlight a paragraph and try to copy it one could not paste it like it is something that have lock those words that it could not just be pasted. I do hope to that intellectual properties would be fully protected as new features and development are discover those cases of plagiarism would be prevented.

Oh, actually when I was in highschool, one of my classmate whom my close friend borrowed my project. That was when Pope John Paul the 2nd came here in the Philippines year 1994. She borrowed it because she was happy that I have a complete entry of Papal Visits events. So I lend her the copy, not even thinking. After class my teacher for Social Studies called me to appear in her office. I went there and there she show me my project and my closefriends project. You know what she did, she photocopied my entry and she just used liquid paper to erase my name. I was disgusted too, how can she do it to me. Instead of giving me high grades my grades after doing the more hardwork of that project was 85 only. Shameful. Well, back to the topic, I just shared what first plagiarism story I had to you, because I know how it feels. People don't care if they cheat on their writings just to earn. They have a very hard face. I will check on my discussion if that have been copied too. Thanks for sharing your story to us.

There wer also posts usng a cyrrillic alphabet, Eastern Europe. What also got me was a cancelled account with this nickname on eBay (possibly a banned user). hi burrito, yeah, that is the only way to know the number of entries in your username just type your user name like example burrito in mylot then all your discussion would appear or just your user name. It is a good way to find out too if someone use your names which you already know and you'll be surprise to with the similarities of your user name with other people. It is also one way to detect if someone use your user name in some incredulous activities which you could find out by just googling their name. Also a good way if you are a writer then like to know if someone copy your articles you could check it with plagiarism checker and it the easy way to determine if any of your work have been plagiarized.
