How can I steam iron at home?

I have some silk blouses that I definitely need to steam, but I don't know how! I have an iron but I'm scared to steam directly on it. I've heard of "home made" ways to steam but I'm not sure any of them are efficient and won't ruin my shirts. I would get them dry cleaned..But I'm not paying the $7-$8 it would take to have them steamed (I work at one - and don't get any discount. So I know.) Do you have any at-home tricks for steam ironing or a ghetto equivalent? Do share!!

Place a slightly damp bath towel over your silk shirt, making sure that the silk shirt is flat under the towel. Then proceed to iron the towel an shirt at the same time. This will remove the wrinkles but not harm the shirt. Another option is to purchase an actual steamer. They will heat steam without direct contact to the clothing.
