How to let the child dress yourself?

Let the child dress him/herself . . . just let them do it . . . it takes practice! It does depend on what age they are and what motor skills they are currently capable of. I have an almost 5 year old. I sort out my daughter's clothes so she knows where to find them - short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts, pants, dresses, socks, whatever. I'll tell her it's hot or cold outside and tell her to find a shirt and pants (or whatever fits the weather) and she gets them herself and tries to dress herself. I don't care if it matches or not - as long as she is doing the rest herself. She still needs help with some things - but that's ok, as long as she is trying. Also, if the clothes are hard for them to put on, it's just frustrating . . . so it's always good to buy clothes that you know that they can put on themselves.
