After all the crap I have gotten from my parents about having bought a horse, they have finally decided to bring Torc home... And now that hes five we can really do something with him... Any ideas as to what I should do with my little man. Western pleasure is a definite as he is a QH!

Just because he is a quarter horse does not mean he is a pleasure horse. Let him tell you what he wants to do. Quater horses are some of the most agile animals and are actually bred for working horses. I have one that could not be shown in a pleasure ring to save her soul but she would make the best reining horse in the world. Her mother was a state champion in reining before we had to have her put down. I have previously owned a QH that was used for open field fox hunting. He was only 15.2 hands tall but could clear a 4-5 foot jump with ease. Competitive trail riding is also a good activity for the QH. They are typically pretty unflappable and have no problems navigating the course. If you live in an area where there are QH shows go and watch a few of the event. Then if something catches your eye find a trainer in that event to help you out. Ride him for your pleasure but don't get frustrated if he will not conform to the Western Pleasure show ring standards.

My little welsh pony takes off and Torc doesn't even keep up. He refuses to do more than a jog or a slow controled canter... I can get him to move like a hunter but I have to be on him pushing him all the time, which I find really funny because he loves to jump. Hes like 15 hands and hes soo friggin adorable. I am thinking he can do low levels of anything and I definately want to do trails... I rally think he wont be my hunter pace horse though... Can't keep up with the other horses.

Considering he is a QH I would definetly start him in western pleasure. You could later try him for barrels or something like that.
