My family recently had a discussion about this. I was surprised to find that the majority of my family would rather have Salad Dressing. I'm a Mayo person myself, but I buy and eat both. My sister-in-law said she doesnt eat Mayo at all. What do you like Mayonnaise or Salad Dressing? Can you tell the difference in foods prepared with them?

I honestly can not tell the difference. I like either one. My oldest son swears he know the difference & maybe he does but his mom doesn't, lol.

Hello kymomo and welcome to myLot. I'm a salad dressing person myself. To me regular mayo tastes rancid. It doesn't matter which brand either. The last two grocery stores I went to didn't have any brand of the salad dressing. When I ask about it they said that when they reorganized the store it was't on the order list. I have two more stores to check and if they stopped carrying it I may have to learn to use regular mayo. Yes I can tell if regular mayo is used in a recipe.

Mayo. I will eat either in small amounts mixed into something or spread thin on a sandwich because they both have the tartness I like, but I prefer the eggy flavor of a good mayonaise, and while I won't turn down otherwise good potato or macaroni salad or devilled eggs made with salad dressing, it does make a difference I can taste. I'll even spread mayonaise on bread by itself when there's nothing else in the house to make a sandwich. I won't do that with salad dressing.
