Do people fail or do they just quit?

Is there a difference between quitting and failing? Many people complain about not liking their current situatons and not being where they really want to be. When this happens they say they failed but in reality they just stopped trying. So is there really a difference? How do you know how successful you coulkd have been if you just stopped trying.

Quitting is when the tasks doing is unfinished, and stop midway. Failing is when one dream tried to reach failed to come into reality. Some people quit with their struggle halfway for many reasons. And also due to some obstacles that they think and feel they can't overcome anymore. And this can also lead into failure when someone quit after trying and giving much effort to reach it's goal. While other people failed to reach their dream due to losing interest anymore. Or even losing faith to oneself,...then,some people failed to fulfill their dreams and stop at once. And...after realizing their mistakes...some try to start again.

You are right, we are in no position to judge anyone. But if you ive up on something you will always be left wondering what could have been.

I agree, but if you stop trying how do you know how successful you would have been?

we never knew the reason why some people stop...and quit. and it's hard to judge those people. sometimes we need to be on their situation to understand fully about their reason. it is easy to judge..but hard to justify our judgement, unless we experience the same situation.

I don't necessarily think that they fail I think that get frustrated and quit trying.

For example, I kept trying to quit smoking for about a year. I kept not being able to quit because I believe that I was not ready to quit right at that point in time. A year later after I never gave up quitting I was finally successful at stopping smoking. There was many time I kept telling myself that there was no way I would be able to quit but I was not going to let that happen and I know if I kept it up I would be successful.

I agree and congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit smoking myself and it is the best thing I ever did.

That is a good question. I think with most things in life we have more than one chance to do them, so if we fail the first time and if we do not quit we can go back and try again, and try again if need be until you complete the task, if you do this then you are a true winner. But some will never go back and try again and I do believe that they are quitters. Then again we have to know our limits too, if something is physically impossible then perhaps it is not wise to try again, I don't know if that is failure though in that case it is more like self preservation.

Yeah it depends whether things are attainable or not but as long as you dont give up you have not yet failed.

In my opinion, quitting is the definition of failure. It is impossible to fail at something still in progress isn't it?

I agree with you 100% if you are still working on something then you have not failed. The day you give up is the day you fail.

There is a difference because if you quit trying to do something but learn from the experience then it is not a failure because you have got something out of it. But then on the other hand if you quit and don't learn anything from doing something then yes it is a failure because you haven't got something out of it. Well that's how I think of it anyway.

This is true, anything that you can turn into a learning experience is a success.

I think constant failures lead to quitting. There is only so much that one person can take. So much frustration, so much disappointment, from the inability to do a task. Therefore, instead of trying just one time, they throw their hands into the air and basically cut their losses. There is no reason to keep trying as it seems like an unclimbable mountain that they have crashed down time and time again. Therefore, they just walk away. We have not truly failed in many instances, until we have quit trying. However, there is only so much disappointment before that particular breaking point has been reached.

I agree there is a difference between the two and you only fail when you stop trying.

i think quitting and failing are two diff things, like if u take an project and u do ur best and ur unable to do it succesfuly then u fails...but u have experience which can help u next time to be succesful...and quiting is only done by LOOSERS, they didnt take any experience thts y they didnt susecful in life

I agree and it is sad that people cant tell the difference between the two.
